Help from Above for All

“My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.” – Psalm 121:2

As storm clouds gathered over Ukraine, carrying an ominous threat of war, the world watched. Destruction and death became the daily experience of the people of Ukraine. Amid the devastation and uncertainty of even the next hour, God’s people continued faithfully standing on His promises.

A WMP contact in Romania with missionaries in Ukraine sent this poignant message: “The threat and uncertainty are creating turmoil in the country and those around it, but our missionaries stand firm in the knowledge that God is in control, and that His Will will prevail. The tension has reached into people’s homes and villages, breeding uncertainty and worry. And yet, God is using that turmoil to help people be more receptive to Him. The missionaries are always telling us stories that demonstrate how God uses the darkest of times to speak into the hearts of many. The churches in Ukraine are fasting and praying that they will remain faithful and be a good witness to others, regardless of the outcome. I encourage us all to pray with them.”

In recent weeks, World Missionary Press has received a growing number of requests for Scripture booklets in Ukrainian. Surely the Spirit of God is moving among His people to reach out with hope and support through His Word.

Booklet orders have already been sent to four separate churches in Poland to serve those coming from Ukraine and also to minister to Russians who have come for safety. A team from the USA will be ministering to refugees in Greece, including new arrivals from Ukraine. WMP’s national coordinator in Finland has asked for a new supply of booklets in Ukrainian to meet the opportunity.

A group in California is sending humanitarian aid for Ukraine, including WMP Scripture booklets in Russian and Ukrainian. They sent an urgent request for more booklets for the next shipment of aid. Feed the Hungry requested 20,000 Scripture booklets to accompany their response to the situation in Ukraine.

Our national coordinator in Denmark sent an urgent plea for more booklets in Ukrainian and Russian. Noting that Denmark was willing to receive 40-50,000 Ukrainian refugees, he wanted to be prepared. Some refugees had already arrived, making the timing urgent. Now 100,000 refugees are expected!

One request was particularly meaningful. Back In 2015, as the flow of immigrants from the Middle East and Northern Africa surged into southern Europe, churches realized not only the need for humanitarian aid, but also the opportunity to share the truth of God’s Word to those who had never known the One true God and His love for them. Because of the many different languages, churches in Hungary contacted WMP for help. Andrew F. wrote from Hungary back then about outreach to Muslim refugees arrested at the border and taken to the train station for a few hours before traveling on to Budapest and the refugee camps. There were about 20-70 people per day. Very few spoke English. They helped with food, clothes, medical care, played with the kids, and shared the gospel when possible.

One of the churches who had discovered WMP literature in those days sent a new request to share with Ukrainian refugees who were arriving in Hungary in large numbers. Thus, a relationship established for immigrants from afar years ago is now serving refugees from a neighboring country. God always goes before and prepares the way to accomplish His purposes.

It is important to realize that many Ukrainians are remaining in their country and many national churches are standing with them. It is also important to think as well of those in Russia who also are suffering the consequences of the war in their country. In addition, Christians in many countries are opening homes and giving much to receive those who have fled. In each situation the Word of God is their Help from Above.

Many times in the 61-year history of World Missionary Press, we have seen God prepare us for the unexpected. Praise God, we had Ukrainian booklets already available to fill each of the above requests.

“My heart breaks for the people in Ukraine,” wrote Cornel S. (See page 4.) “Since we started ministry in Ukraine in 1991, God has opened doors that I never thought would be possible.” He has seen souls coming to the Lord, disciples being made, and Christian Camps developed for children and youth. “I’ve seen church buildings built and people coming to Christ to fill them. Today is a sad time in Ukraine; however, we have a God who is still in control!”

[You can bring Help from Above to the people of Ukraine and to places around the world. Every donated dollar provides for the production of 28 powerful Scripture booklets for people around the world in their own language. An investment of $100 will touch the lives of 2,800 people; $1,000 will impact 28,000 people who need to have hope in God.]

Grateful Quotes

“Preparing blessing bags for the Community Day in the park.”

“Every year I prepare blessing bags with booklets and coloring books for children, crosses, devotionals and booklets for teens, and Meditations in the Psalms and blessing rocks for the adults.

“We usually see about 250 children, 100 teens, and 200 adults at the annual Community Day in the Park. We love being a blessing to others, and your resources permit us to do much more than we could do on our own.

“The children love gathering at the table and picking a gemstone with a cross painted on it to go with your Who Am I that a KING Would Die in My Place? booklet and coloring in the God Loves You! booklet as we tell the stories!

“I love your outreach materials, small group studies, and of course the coloring books. Thank you for your commitment to God’s work!!!”

Volunteer

I first heard of WMP years ago through Nappanee Missionary Church. I had been honored to serve in Malawi as a missionary through the Rafiki Foundation (2004-2007) but was called back home due to family emergencies. I knew that once I retired, I wanted to do something related to mission work again; however, at this time I am committed to staying in this area. I’d been thinking of volunteering for WMP when a good friend also decided to return to volunteer here, so the time just seemed right. I’ve been volunteering for the past 16 months (although it doesn’t seem that long).

What I like most about volunteering at WMP is knowing I am playing a small part in this enormous ministry. When I learned just how many countries the Word is going out to, and in so many various languages, I was awed. I had seen first-hand how much this type of ministry meant to the people of Malawi while I was there, so again, I feel it a privilege to participate in what God is doing through WMP. Another favorite part has been meeting the wonderful friends I get to work alongside here.

When I’m not volunteering, I love to be outside, either doing yard work or walking/hiking in the summer. In the winter I read more, but also like to have some inside home-improvement project going.

WMP Partners Around the World

Cornel S.

Romania

Romania is strategically located in Eastern Europe to serve as a hub for accessing WMP literature. A new ministry partner, Partners in Evangelism International, received a shipment from WMP in 2020 to reach into these nations with the Word of God. PIEI also supports missionaries in Ukraine who have used WMP booklets in their outreach. God’s Word is at work!

WMP: Cornel, would you share a little of your background and ministry?

Cornel: I emigrated from Romania as a religious refugee, with my family, during the communist regime in 1983. I know what it means not to have literature, to be persecuted for your faith, and to sacrifice in order to put the Word of God into the hands of people. I got involved in evangelism here in the States, then immediately after the fall of communism in Romania and then in Southern Ukraine, and with Partners in Evangelism International since 1990. Our ministry has established partnerships with national missionaries currently in 13 countries. As president of PIEI, I am involved with the overall leadership of these ministries but have closer and hands-on involvement with the ministries in Romania and in Ukraine.

WMP: How are the Scripture booklets incorporated into the ministry?

Cornel: Being fluent in Romanian, I travel often, getting to know our national missionaries who are doing the work of evangelism, church planting, and discipleship as well as train and recruit short-term mission teams to serve alongside our missionaries. We have done a lot of door-to-door Bible and literature distribution during free clinics for eye glasses, blood pressure testing, etc. We pray with the people and give them literature before they leave. Our missionaries and teams go on home visits, especially in rural areas, taking food, school supplies, all kinds of needed goods, along with Bibles and literature. They also rely on having some literature to give first-time comers when they visit their churches and when they have questions. The message of salvation especially is so important to put into the hands of people. It is the most important message that someone will receive—a challenge to make an eternal decision.

WMP: What challenges does the ministry face?

Cornel: Once the shipment reaches our facility in Romania, it’s very easy to distribute from there, and quite fast. During Covid, the process was unusually slow due to travel restrictions and curfews. Once most of those were lifted, and the people in charge of the distribution received a clear directive, the Romanian language literature left the facility and got into the hands of eager pastors, missionaries, workers, teachers, students, etc. Challenges also exist especially when a facility such as ours in Romania becomes a hub for other countries. It would be marvelous to have more Russian and Ukrainian materials for our missionaries there.

We are thankful to join together in reaching people with the gospel for the kingdom of God. We thank you for your partnership in ministry, and for your faithfulness in providing literature free of charge. This is a dark time, and more than ever, people need hope and God’s salvation in order to come to the Light, through God’s Word, His message of hope and love.

“To the Corners of the Earth!”

For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
He will set up a banner for the nations… from the four corners of the earth.” – Isaiah 11:9b, 12

Excitement rose among the staff as word was received that a faithful partner had given WMP a challenge grant to provide container shipments to “the corners of the earth.” With a gift of $211,000 and a desire to help fund shipments going to various parts of the world, the challenge is going out to help toward another $211,000 to fund the printing and shipping of a total 9,163,355 Scripture booklets to waiting, eager hands—four 40-foot container shipments to Russia, Argentina, Ethiopia, South Sudan, and part of a fifth container to Romania, Bulgaria, and Moldova.

RUSSIA: In March, 2021, WMP was contacted by believers in Russia who presented a well-organized and focused campaign to reach 25 million people in Central Russia within a 24-month period. This plan included the need for trusted literature, leaving the message of salvation through Jesus Christ to continue speaking. Their initial request was for 1 million copies of A Bible Study on John as a starting point with a subsequent request for 1 million copies of the new WMP booklet, Who do You say that I AM?

“Christ is in our country,” was one eager response. “The ministry is growing so fast and the doors for preaching the gospel are more open than ever in our country. Right now we are distributing about 1,040,000 booklets in one month. We feel we still have the resources to start distributing about 2,000,000 booklets in one month. So we are looking forward to the booklets. Print as many of them as you can! Thank you for your work for our country. I thank Christ that we will rejoice together.”

ARGENTINA: Despite limitations for outreach due to the current pandemic, the work of giving the Word of God to the people of Argentina has continued. Doors are opening, requiring a new supply of WMP Scripture booklets and Bible studies. Churches can once again carry out activities without restrictions. A strategic follow-up and discipleship plan has been started by WMP’s national coordinator in recent months. Their new order reflected an increase in the number of booklets and Bible studies that are proving very effective.

“We are blessed to be partners in evangelization,” wrote EHC Argentina. “God is giving us many opportunities to reach many people for Christ each month, and that’s wonderful! Without you, the work would not be possible, since 70% of the literature we distribute is WMP booklets. Our prison ministry requested Bible studies of John, Matthew, Romans, and Genesis. I just had to say they were exhausted, but we are expecting another shipment! Thank you very much, and many blessings.”

ETHIOPIA:  An internal conflict between government and rebel forces has seen thousands die in Ethiopia, with more than a million people displaced. Reports now warn that nearly half a million Ethiopians are facing starvation. Into such uncertainties and desperation, the Word of God brings hope. WMP’s national coordinator confirmed the open doors to share the booklets and the timely need.

“Praise God that Christ is setting people free,” EHC Ethiopia wrote. “Anteneh B. is a street boy who committed lots of sins and was in jail many times. But a simple gospel booklet changed his life. Nobody had told him about Jesus before, because they were afraid to approach him. He shares: ‘But this booklet told me who Jesus is. A lady gave me this booklet, and I accepted Jesus through that message. If Jesus [were] not my Savior, my life [would have] ended up in the maximum-security prison where the worst criminals are sent.’”

A 40-foot container with 1.3 million booklets in Amharic and Oromiffa is in line for production. The booklets are being well received and effective. Millions face an empty tomorrow. Now is the day of salvation.

SOUTH SUDAN: In a recent interview, WMP’s national coordinator in South Sudan eloquently expressed the opportunity and need for a new supply of Scripture booklets. He reports that in the past two years, doors have been opened for evangelism outreach without restriction and churches have seized the opportunity to press forward with the gospel. South Sudan is home to 64 tribes, 27 of which have not been reached with the gospel. He states that “Without you, we wouldn’t know what we could do.” The larger areas of Darfur, Khartoum, and the Nuba Mountains are open to the gospel, accentuating the need for more material.

Booklets are urgently needed in two of the major languages of South Sudan, Dinka and Nuer. The WMP language team is working with the team there to get booklets ready as soon as possible. These will enhance the reach of the literature and support the churches in evangelism and discipleship. A 40-foot container with 1.7 million booklets is in line to provide tools for those going through the open doors God has provided.

ROMANIA, BULGARIA, and MOLDOVA: Scripture booklets will provide for part of a fifth container shipment, bringing the total project to 9,163,355 Scripture booklets destined for the corners of the earth! Each Help from Above-sized booklet can be printed and shipped for 4.6053 cents. What eternal value! You can be part of the vision and provision of the partner who so earnestly wants to reach around the world with words of hope and salvation through Jesus Christ! Will you help meet our “Corners of the Earth” challenge?

[You can be involved in projects “to the corners of the earth!” A generous donor has already provided $211,000. Can we meet his challenge to provide another $211,000? Producing 9,163,355 million Scripture booklets will also ship four 40-foot container shipments to Russia, Argentina, Ethiopia, and South Sudan, plus part of a fifth container to Romania, Bulgaria, and Moldova.]

Grateful Quotes

“Booklet meant for me.”

“I came from a Buddhist family. I prayed and asked Jesus at a church meeting on Feb. 8, 2020, to prove to me that He is real, and He did! Out of nowhere, the pastor who didn’t know me, called out my name and prayed over me. It was amazing.

“I want to give booklets to the Vietnamese community around me and other booklets to everyone that I meet daily and for family. Thank you!

“I was in Las Vegas during this Thanksgiving holiday and got a booklet, Help from Above. I think it was meant for me to get the booklet! I usually travel to Vietnam to visit family back there, and now I know where to get the Word of God in Vietnamese. My goal is to spread the good news in Vietnam.”

WMP Partners Around the World

Omar B.
Colombia

Some major distributors have faithfully partnered with WMP national coordinators for many years. As booklets are printed and shipped, they are an encouragement to WMP staff, and we are assured that Scriptures will be given out prayerfully and with care and that the Word will fall on good soil. We praise God for those who take up the challenge, carrying words of life and hope wherever the Lord leads.

WMP: Brother Omar, please describe your ministry and background.

Omar: In March 1982, Evangelica Cristiana Templo Belen began its first service. We continue to preach the gospel where the Lord takes us. We have 25 churches within the city of Buenaventura and rural areas, as well as churches established in Ecuador, Belgium, and Switzerland. We distribute literature in all of Colombia to churches who request literature to preach the gospel. We continue to expand through cell groups of adults and children that later become churches.

WMP: How long have you been involved in distributing WMP literature?

Omar: I received my first mail bag of literature in 1995. In 1998 I met with former WMP President Jay Benson and current WMP President Harold Mack in Bogota regarding serving as a major distributor for WMP material in Colombia. We have been answering the challenge since that time, receiving container shipments for distribution.

WMP: How has the free literature helped the churches grow?

Omar: We give thanks to God because Colombia is being filled with the Glory and the Word of God as the waters cover the sea. The gospel is being preached in all the national territories, and many churches are open to preach the gospel. WMP literature has been a great blessing in the country. We have delivered to places as far as the Eastern Plains at the other extreme of the country and to the south in places like Tumaco, in the capitol of Bogota, etc. Literature from WMP is a blessing for both adults and children, as it is clear for all that read it.

WMP: What challenges do believers face in Colombia as they receive and share the Scripture booklets?

Omar: Thanks to God, the Word of God can be preached or distributed with liberty in most cities. In some cities like Cali, etc., there are communities where you need to identify yourself to be able to enter. We go into these areas in uniform with the Army of Prayer and Salvation. When they see us in uniform and that we are Christians, they allow us in, but they do not allow us to take photographs. In December, while we were sharing in uniform, one of us was threatened with death, but they did not harm us because we were together in a group.

WMP: Do you have a testimony you can share?

Omar: This year during our evangelistic journey in Cali, we visited in the Barrio Jardin, a dangerous zone because of violence, narco trafficking, and the presence of many homeless, drug addicts, and street vendors. One street vendor who received a booklet was so touched by it that the next day she searched for us until she found us and asked for another booklet to read. She showed us in her handbag those she had already read. This is the power of the Word of God. Both adults and children like The Way to God Scripture booklet because of the model prayer on page 29. Because of that prayer, they ask for it more than the other titles. That booklet has been the key to go into very dangerous places.

Pray for the 51.6 million people of Colombia, with its 1,119 cities. The need of literature to reach Colombia is great!

Our hope is in the Lord

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord.” —Jeremiah 17:7

Reports from the world’s “hot spots” reveal nations in turmoil through civil strife, natural disasters, government failure, and disease. In some places, thousands are fleeing to any place that appears to hold safety and hope. But the hope of all peoples and nations is only in the Lord. His Word is a foundation that will not be removed.

Cuba: This report came as an urgent prayer request: “It seems chaotic, as there is not sufficient food, medicine, etc. All across the island there is unrest, people are demonstrating.” But even as they were living the worst wave of coronavirus, “in the midst of the lack of resources, we experience God’s miracles every day.” God’s people could testify, “In situations like this one, our only resource is God. We know He is a heavenly Father who loves us, and no one and nothing can take us out of His powerful hands. We have peace, trusting in God’s protection.”

Afghanistan: The world watched in dismay at the upheaval which caused thousands to flee, seeking safety and hope. WMP is reprinting 75,000 copies of the Gospel of John in Dari, a language of Afghanistan. These, along with Help from Above in Dari, will be used in the USA, Europe, and parts of Asia—wherever this migration settles.

Haiti: In recent months, WMP has shipped more than three million Scripture booklets, Bible studies, and Kreyol New Testaments to Haiti. Another shipment awaits delivery as calls for Scriptures continue—as Haiti is in crisis with the assassination of their president in July and another major earthquake in August.

A WMP distributor tells of a witch doctor in a village where past attempts to establish a fellowship of Christians had failed. As they moved into the area to start a church, the witch doctor’s wife started attending. She soon responded to the salvation message, followed by his daughter, then the son-in-law. Each time, the witch doctor would get angry. When the team saw wells not working, they chose to repair the well beside the witchdoctor’s house! The witchdoctor thanked God and publicly acknowledged God’s goodness! The team is praying that God will save him soon and also remove voodoo from the village. “When God comes into an area, evil has to flee.”

Venezuela: Hardship throughout the country has caused more than 5.6 million Venezuelans to leave since 2014, reported the BBC. Most crossed into neighboring Colombia, where WMP distributors eagerly share God’s Word while the work of the gospel continues in Venezuela. WMP’s national coordinator will soon receive a new container shipment of Scriptural material, providing for a broad distribution as soon as it arrives. Another shipment planned for a major distributor will add to the overall coverage—God’s love demonstrated through His Word and His people.

Mexico: Almost 13 million Scripture booklets, Bible studies, and coloring books in Spanish have been sent into Mexico in the past 12 months, with another 5.5 million being prepared to ship. As rival forces strive for control and power there, God’s Word reveals that only God has the power to change a life, a community, and a nation.

Sister R.A. wrote, “As I have learned about God through the booklet, How to Know God, I also wish for others to know about Him. I have visited my neighbors and acquaintances, and they have listened to the Word of God. I have been able to share the message of salvation with each of them. With great joy they have received the message, and some of them have accepted the Lord Jesus into their hearts. They have seen how God has manifested Himself in their lives, as well as the change they have felt in their own homes since they have let Jesus Christ take control of everything.”

Myanmar: More than 1,200 people have died at the hands of Burmese soldiers since the military coup on February 1. The third wave of Covid brought nearly 20,000 deaths in July and August. Martin L. reported that though the crisis slowed ministry plans, “God’s gracious love is amazing and through WMP Scriptures, we are showing His love and care.” The newly published Burmese booklets, Who Do You Say that I Am? and God Loves You!, were distributed along with relief aid. “I believe WMP booklets will help, encourage, and comfort at this time of grief and disappointment.” It means a lot to those “in remote areas, ministering to people who’ve never heard of Jesus.”

Scripture booklets are also being prepared for the Middle East, Russia, South Asia, Indonesia, South Africa, and Sudan. No matter the circumstance, our hope is in the Lord!

[You can help provide God’s Word for the world’s “hot spots.” Every donated dollar helps produce 29 powerful Scripture booklets for people around the world in their own language. An investment of $100 will touch the lives of 2,900 people; $1,000 will impact 29,000 people who need to know God.]

Grateful Quotes

“Helped me focus on the day”

“For the past 19 years of my life, I was in a physical prison. Of those 19 years, I think I woke up each morning and read my Scripture-text Datebook. There is something about just reading the Word and setting the day in my mind that helped me focus on the day.

“I am now home, but every morning I get out my Datebook and see what this day has for me. I don’t know what I would do without Jesus. Your Datebook has encouraged me and given me focus. Keep up the good work.”

—Kenneth, North Carolina

“My son was in prison”

“When my son was in prison, he used to read the Datebook. He went to be with the Lord December 9, 2019. As I was going through his belongings, he still had the 2015 Datebook in his belongings. It is now in my Bible, and I include it in my daily devotions.

“I realize this donation isn’t much, but may it help to place this daily devotion in the hands of a few men or women. God bless your ministry and may God’s Word continue to touch the lives of others.”

—Sue, Pennsylvania

[Scripture-text Datebooks are produced each year especially for use in prisons in the United States at a cost of 10¢ each. Please consider providing the daily encouragement of God’s Word to those in prison throughout 2022.]

I first heard about World Missionary Press when I saw a job posting online. I’d been looking for a new job for a while, and it seemed like it would be a good fit. I decided to look around their website and social media to see what they were all about. As I continued to research and pray, I just had this feeling of peace when I thought about what life might look like at WMP.

I’ve been here for only a couple of months, but I’m excited to see where God leads! In my position as a Graphic Design Specialist, I manage our social media channels and work on various graphic design projects. My favorite part about working at WMP is the missions focus. Not only is it awesome to be part of a team that all have the same goals, but it’s really cool to see how God is using us to touch the lives of others.

When I’m not working, sometimes I’m still working. I do freelance graphic design on the side. Other than that, I enjoy a good movie and I try to squeeze some hobbies in when I have free time. I enjoy playing the acoustic guitar and playing games with friends. When it’s warm, I also enjoy longboarding and playing spikeball. I’m also great at eating good food.

I have an older brother and an older sister who both live in Warsaw, Indiana. My sister is married, and they actually live less than a minute away from my apartment, which I rent with my brother. When we told our family we were going to move in together, they were all worried it would be a mistake. We shared a room for 18 years, guys; I think we can handle an apartment! My parents live in McKinney, Texas, about 30 minutes from downtown Dallas. I do miss the warm weather. I lived there throughout high school and moved to Warsaw for college.

WMP Partners Around the World

Dicho K.

Bulgaria

For almost 30 years, a faithful WMP distributor has been sharing words of hope and salvation through WMP Scripture booklets in villages across Bulgaria. It is truly exciting to see what God can and will do through those willing to go where He sends. Approximately 40 churches have been established as a result of this simple and consistent sharing of the gospel.

WMP: Dicho, please describe your background and current ministry.

Dicho: When I came to Christ in 1991, I wanted to tell people about the peace and joy that we can have in Christ. First, I created a booklet to give to people in my work and city. Soon I traveled in my free time to villages close by, sharing the gospel. One special day I heard a voice deep in my heart, which I believe came from the Holy Spirit, saying that not only my city and the region around it should be reached, but there was a whole country which should be reached with the gospel.

Today I have two teams sharing the gospel by giving booklets and New Testaments, showing the Jesus film, and sharing other Christian literature. Every two weeks we travel to different parts of our country. From 1992 to 2008 we shared the gospel in every city and village in Bulgaria, no matter if there was a Muslim or atheist population. All of the people heard the good news. Some received booklets like Help from Above, The Way to God, and How to Know God. There is now a new generation that should be reached too, so we continue the travels and now we are on the way to visit every single place in our country for a second time.

WMP: When did you first learn about WMP?

Dicho: In 1992 I found Help from Above with contact information on it. Next year it will be thirty years that I have been distributing WMP booklets, and all I can say for these years of partnership is that I see in the team of WMP a people who really love God and want to reach people for Christ.

WMP: How does the availability of free literature affect evangelism in your country?

Dicho: A Scripture booklet makes a very special way to reach people who are not so open to listen to the gospel or talk with someone. But when they receive a booklet, they can read it on their own and have a special meeting with Jesus in such moments. When we visit Muslim people, they may not welcome us or listen, but many are open to receive a booklet and to read it when no one else can see them. The booklets have the exact topics which can bring someone to Christ.

The Scripture booklets also help the Christian community to grow in Christ. Many Christians who want to share the gospel think that they cannot speak well or debate, but when they see the booklets, many decide they can become booklet distributors. Many brothers and sisters from different places contact me to send them WMP booklets to share.

WMP: Is there one incident that stands out to you?

Dicho: Over the years I’ve received many calls and letters from people who just came to Christ and have a thirsty need for additional literature, a Bible, or instruction where they can find a church. Two testimonies really touched my heart.

Our team went to a mountain village to share booklets, but also asked the seller at the local food shop if they could leave a few booklets for people who wanted to take a booklet home. He agreed. Years later, another brother went to that village to share the gospel and found that the same shop with the same person was keeping the booklets as a library! He gave a booklet to those who asked, but they would bring it back so other people could take it. He said each booklet looked like an old book which had been read by many people.

The second testimony was a family with sick children. They didn’t believe in Christ but decided to pray the prayer at the back of The Way to God. Afterwards a miracle happened. The sick children were healed and the whole family became Christ followers!

God is using the booklets as a way to reach people, and one day we will see many people in heaven who kept in their hands the booklets of World Missionary Press.

Sharing the Story of Jesus

“But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.” – John 20:31

Emlan was born into a Muslim family and taught the way of Islam. He learned that Jesus was a prophet but not the Son of God. When someone gave him a How to Know God Scripture booklet, he became confused but interested to find out more fully about Jesus. It was a turning point for Emlan to learn that Jesus rose from the dead to give life to those who believe in Him. “None of the other prophets lived to give life to others,” he said. Emlan gave his life to Christ.

The New Testament presents the story of Jesus in gripping detail, demanding a decision from the reader. Many scholars and skeptics who have read the Scriptures with the goal of totally discounting the message of the gospel, have found themselves convinced that the Bible is the Word of God and must be dealt with as eternal truth.

In the interior of Guyana, South America, 95% of a particular tribal group had no Bible. When a team arrived with New Testaments, they were overjoyed. One pastor, knowing that his church had been praying for Bibles just the day before, was speechless!

A WMP ministry partner in Africa is focused on reaching unengaged, unreached people groups in at least 13 countries. They trek into villages still steeped in animism, ancestor worship, fetishes, and witchcraft, and share the gospel, first to a few and then to more as curiosity and spiritual hunger draw people to the message. Those who accept the message and receive Jesus as Savior are discipled and encouraged to reach others. Here is a critical need for the Word of God—to build a firm foundation in each new believer so that they can in turn give a clear, strong message.

In one area there are church plants to the 7th generation. A church planted by the original team planted another which planted another—to the 7th church plant. The vision of this ministry is that through the principles of multiplication, they will see 100,000 new churches established in the coming five years!

Much of the area being reached by this group and other WMP partners in Africa is French-speaking. To help meet the overwhelming cry for Scriptures to disciple and train new believers and encourage pastors, World Missionary Press provides limited quantities of New Testaments in French. Requests are overwhelming. Thousands each for Guinea, Cameroon, Togo, Central African Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina-Faso, Congo Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Benin, and Rwanda. Touching messages, like this one from Cameroon, come to us in some form from each country: “There is also a very high demand for New Testaments in our country, and we are a little bit worried that the number of New Testaments we received [from WMP] will fail to overcome the perceived need.”

Testimonies of the power of God’s Word challenge those of us who have easy access to Bibles to rediscover this power in our own lives.

From Congo Republic: “Mr. Gilbert S. said that he is grateful to God for sending His disciples to their village because no servant of God had ever reached their home before. He says, ‘I believe in Jesus. I leave the customs behind and thank the Lord for His grace given to me.’ ”

Also from Congo Republic: “A young man from G— village declared that he had never believed that the Word of God had the power to change lives. Many people who were attached to and bound by traditional customs were touched by the Word of God since the arrival of the missionaries in the village and do not worry about that anymore but rather come to listen to the Word of God. Therefore, he has also decided to receive Jesus into his life.”

To rejoice over a newborn Christian but fail to help feed and strengthen that newborn is to give faint praise. So many are coming out of spiritual darkness and receiving the Light of the World.

Erik L. of New Covenant Missions wrote, “Less than a year ago, these two people groups had no churches and few, if any, known believers, but today there is a church for each UUPG (unengaged, unreached people group) with a handful of new believers worshipping God in their local languages! . . . Every time I set my foot on that soil or read through their testimonies, I am simply stunned by our Lord Jesus Christ and the lengths and depths He will go to reach people!”

Production of French New Testaments has been delayed due to the overcrowding of finished product that could not be shipped when completed (due to COVID and international shipping congestion). Our need for larger staging and warehouse space has been amplified by the events of the past two years at a time when God has provided for increased production. The current “Building for the Kingdom” project will allow us to meet such extenuating circumstances without limiting our production of New Testaments (see project update on page 4).

Shipments will soon be on the way to Africa carrying over 100,000 French New Testaments. It will not be enough, but it will bless thousands of believers with more of God’s Word in their own hands and the knowledge that the Lord has people who know and care.

[You can help provide God’s Word for the world. Every donated dollar helps produce 29 powerful Scripture booklets for people around the world in their own language. An investment of $100 will touch the lives of 2,900 people; $1,000 will impact 29,000 people who need to know God.]

Grateful Quotes

“This booklet gave me help and hope.”

“I read this booklet, Help from Above, in French about thirty years ago, when I was desperate. This booklet gave me help and hope, and I found Jesus my Savior! Thank you for your work for Christ. With my brothers and sisters in Christ, I will give these [500] booklets to people in my city and in my country.”

—Cyprien H., France

“To us it is the mouthpiece of God.”

“Thank you for the literature. To us, it is the voice, legs, and mouthpiece of God even to the marginalized people and places of our nation. We pray that the WMP team be given the strength to continue the wonderful work of making available the Word of God through the booklets.”

Volunteer

I asked my daughter, a teacher at Elkhart Christian Academy, if she had contact information for any church-related volunteer work that I could help with while I was on a leave of absence last fall from Indiana University South Bend. She gave me two contacts she thought might fit the bill, one of which was World Missionary Press.

WMP had a position where I thought I could be of service, do good to others, and which also fit my schedule. In October, 2020, I started working full days on Tuesday and Thursday. When I returned to teaching, I arranged my schedule so I could still volunteer part of the time. I enjoy working with the employees and other volunteers. I like helping to produce Scripture booklets that will benefit others all over the world.

I have no traditional hobbies, but I enjoy working with and being of service to others. Avon, my wife of 60 years, passed away three years ago. We have four children, three boys and a girl. They each have their own families—our grandchildren and great grandchildren—all in Indiana or Michigan. We often get to gather during the year but always during Christmas break as our anniversary is between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

WMP Partners Around the World

Susan K., Thru His Mercy

Mexico

Much is written about troubling activity along the 1,954-mile border between the USA and Mexico. However, we praise God for the work of grace by which believers from California to Texas reach across the border to support churches, ministries, and individuals in Mexico. Susan K. of Thru His Mercy, Inc., one of WMP’s unique ministry partners, works with local pastors to enrich the lives of women of the church and community by sharing God’s love and His Word.

WMP: Susan, could you please describe your background and current ministry?

Susan: In 1998 I committed to serve God fully and went on my first short-term mission trip to Mexico. Years later I moved to southern Texas to be a missionary to Mexico, forming Thru His Mercy, Inc. My main ministry is to help women be set free and changed by God through the Scriptures. The transformation begins with an evangelistic tea party, followed by a second tea party to encourage them to let God change them through a spiritual development plan of Bible study through which, step-by-step, God can change their attitudes, their focus, and their future in Him. During this two-year process, other events occur such as street ministry, prayer, encouragement, preaching, and literature distribution.

WMP: How long have you been involved in distributing WMP literature?

Susan: I was introduced to WMP through Edwin H. in Decatur, Alabama. A friend took me with her to pick up literature from him in 2009. In a small room filled with Christian literature and tracts in different languages, I saw the small section of Spanish literature and became lost in the power of this literature for Mexico. When we finally left, loaded down with literature, her small car was a low rider that barely topped the hills! I returned the next years to volunteer in his warehouse. In 2012, he sent me my first semi-truck load of literature, which included WMP Scripture booklets and other miscellaneous tracts and Bibles. The pastors were grateful to receive the literature, but since they had not had literature for so long, they wanted to use it only sparsely for fear of depleting it! I kept reminding them that God is a God of provision. We must not be hoarders but distribute God’s Word with enthusiasm and love. Now, in the different areas of Mexico where I work, the word (Word) is out! New pastors come from all areas of Mexico to receive literature. Thanks, WMP, for this great blessing!

WMP: How has free literature helped churches grow in number and spiritual depth?

Susan: Street evangelism has increased, and this has increased the numbers in the churches. The literature, combined with Thru His Mercy’s discipleship program, is stabilizing and solidifying strong leaders within each church. The Bible studies are new for us. The pastors seem to be embracing the ability to distribute a Bible study booklet to everyone in their congregation and begin the study together.

WMP: How has WMP literature blessed you personally?

Susan: Even though I do not speak Spanish fluently, I am able to share God’s Word with everyone with whom I come in contact. Most of those contacts are workers in the gas stations/stores and the military/police. Once when I was returning from Tabasco to Veracruz, we were stopped by the military. One of the men was a Christian. When I handed him a small package of booklets, he asked for more. I returned the next day with boxes of them to share with the other military men. Every time I see the police or the military, I stop, get out, and hand each man/woman a booklet baggie. Each contains the prayer that we (my prayer team) pray for them every morning via text, a God is love tract, and WMP Scripture booklets. Hallelujah!

A Vision for Russia

“But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.” –Matthew 9:36

Over the years World Missionary Press has seen God open doors that seemed shut, bring together new ministry partners to reach new areas with the gospel, and bring blessing out of seeming chaos.

An unexpected and exciting door has opened to share in reaching Central Russia’s 25 million people with the precious Word of God.

In the past few years WMP has been blessed to support production of 600,000 copies of Russian How to Know God, and this year 200,000 copies of a special edition Russian Bible Study on John, all printed by our partners in Moscow. Testimonies of the distribution were so encouraging, both in the energy and faithfulness of those giving out the booklets and in the overwhelmingly positive response to the message. One comment was that Russians love to read and therefore readily accept the booklets as God opens doors.

An area coordinator wrote, “The information that is written in the booklet is very important for people because it talks about who God is and what He has done for each person. Some people thank us and tell us that we are doing the right thing. I thank you for these booklets, understanding the role that the Word of God plays in a person’s life. Thank you very much!”

A team which distributed 10,000 booklets in their city and region reported, “Against the background of the pandemic of COVID-19, people are increasingly thinking about God and gratefully accept the booklets.”

A distribution leader in Moscow wrote that “people took the booklets with such gratitude and listened to the gospel. Some were strongly affected by God!” One man was very touched when he heard that God loves him “because he does not have a father and never heard that God is his father in Heaven and that He loves him.”

In March 2021 WMP was approached by Every Home for Christ Russia about being involved in helping to reach 25 million people within the next 24 months! Presented as “24:25,” it is a vision to reach the people of Central Russia with the Word of God at least once. The team looked to their current relationship with World Missionary Press to help make the goals of the project a reality: (1) to respond to a burden for revival and evangelism, (2) to change people’s general opinion of the churches in their regions, (3) to see the redemption and salvation of thousands and thousands of precious Russian people—confessing their sins and coming to the Lord.

Scripture booklets are seen as a bridge of friendship, so the need for literature was vital to their planning. Discussions with WMP settled on one million copies of a special 48-page edition of A Bible Study on John in Russian to be printed here in our plant and sent via container to Russia. The Lord seems to be opening the door for WMP to send material into the country after several years of no such access. Because of our economy of operation, the booklets can be printed at WMP and shipped, for about half the cost of printing them in Russia. The new booklet, Who do You say that I Am? has just been translated into Russian and will be sent in a follow–up shipment.

Our brothers and sisters in Russia are depending on World Missionary Press to provide seeds to sow in reaching 25 million souls with the message of hope and salvation through Jesus Christ. They have planned and trained and begun the work. Preparations are in motion for the first container of 1 million booklets, soon to be followed by a second container of 1 million items.

We are trusting the Lord to allow us to continue printing and shipping throughout the course of this project and are looking to the Lord for continuing favor in sending shipments. You can have a part in helping them go through the door while it is open!

[You can help provide God’s Word for Russia and for the world. Every donated dollar helps produce 29 powerful Scripture booklets for people around the world in their own language. An investment of $100 will touch the lives of 2,900 people; $1,000 will impact 29,000 people who need to know God.]

“A resource full of God’s Word.”

“My wife and I have been handing out your Help from Above booklets in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on the boardwalk. We have a mission field coming to our city every day! Help from Above is such a great resource, as it is full of God’s Word. Thank you for making it available.”

Maintenance

I first heard about World Missionary Press when I would come from Pennsylvania to New Paris to visit the family of my son, Michael, the Care and Connection Executive Pastor at Grace Community Church in Goshen. On one visit my son arranged for me to tour WMP. He has lived in New Paris for the past six years with four of our nine grandchildren.

When my daughter and son-in-law decided to move closer to her brother, along with their five adopted special-needs children, this would have left us in Pennsylvania without any grandchildren. My wife of 51 years, Bonnie, is retired and a homemaker. On August 24, 2020, we purchased a home in New Paris to be closer to our family.

I knew that I would need to subsidize my retirement income with part-time work to pay the mortgage. I had two job offers and chose WMP based on the question, “What Am I Doing for Heaven’s Sake?” I felt I could contribute more to populate heaven by working at WMP than by working in a secular job. I had previously served for 30+ years in pastoral ministries and wanted to feel like I was still contributing to the kingdom of God. With WMP printing millions of Scripture booklets a month, that translates to a lot of potential for the kingdom of God!

I have worked part-time at WMP since August 31 of 2020, cleaning the baler and both binderies, cleaning the strapping machines at the binderies once a week, collecting all the trash twice a week, dust-mopping twice a week, as well as running an auto scrubber through the plant once a week. On occasion I run the bundler following the web press. I also change the outdoor sign weekly, with requests to pray for the safe arrival of recent shipments of Scripture booklets.

What I like best about working at WMP is being a cheerleader for coworkers and friends who are also helping to build God’s kingdom.

My hobbies include camping, fishing, gardening, kayaking, and woodworking. When I’m not working at WMP or doing maintenance at home, I’m working at my other part-time job at Veada (Lippert), working on marine interiors.

WMP Partners Around the World

Henry M., ACMI

Kenya

African Christian Missions International (ACMI) and Bishop Henry M. have been faithful partners in Kenya for more than 30 years, serving as WMP’s national coordinator for more than 20 years. To date they have received 19.5 million booklets, Bible studies, and salvation coloring books to share with the people of Kenya. Another container is ready to ship as soon as a sea booking is available.

WMP: What is the mission and scope of ACMI?

ACMI: We are involved in church planting, well-drilling, youth school programs, orphan support, missions training, evangelism rallies, and a chaplaincy program to equip and empower Christian teachers who will see their schools as a mission field. We are excited about what God is doing. Think of 300 young people getting saved in a single rally and more than 1,000 students getting saved in a single weekend! Our particular calling is to prepare Kenya’s next generation to be a spiritually empowered generation—to be not only church leaders and workers, but also men and women in the market place, driving the agenda of the country from a godly platform. Lifechangers is a program providing short-term experience in ministry for fresh graduates before they enter the job market. We are glad we have one thing in common with WMP—to reach lost souls.

WMP: When did you become involved with WMP and the Scripture booklets?

ACMI: The first boxes were received in 1989. Since 2000 we have received a new container shipment every 2-2½ years.

WMP: How has the availability of Scripture booklets helped other ministries and churches?

ACMI:  The booklets have had an impact in many communities as our missionaries carry these useful tools and share them with other churches in Kenya. Their response has been great, thanking us and WMP. We have had so many people coming for booklets that we have been telling God that something great is happening! When you send the booklets, we can be sure there is going to be a change in most Kenyan communities. We have experienced that, and people coming to the Lord through reading the booklets.

WMP: Tell us about the plans to widen the distribution.

ACMI: Our ministry has grown not only in what services we provide the Kenyan people, but also in the geographical range of our work. Much work has been done in a refugee camp and other regions of Kenya. The Lord has led us to consider working in several regional areas by setting up sub-distribution points through pastors and churches already involved in using WMP literature. This will cut mailing/shipping expenses, make the material more readily available, give better feed-back regarding the need for other languages, and provide more timely reporting after the distribution. This comes from trusting the Lord for something to happen during this pandemic to enable us to reach out even to the people who are very far from where we are.

Bishop M. has recently retired from active involvement in this part of ACMI. He has expressed his great gratitude to World Missionary Press for the years of partnership and support through the supply of free literature. The work will continue under the direction of Paul and Irene M., who are also totally committed to seeing the Word of God spread throughout Kenya and beyond and are grateful to be able to count on WMP for continued support and supply. Irene once wrote, “I feel humbled to be part of this noble work of the Lord. The whole world needs to be reached with this gospel of good news!”

Meeting a Great Need in Mexico

“Blessed is the man who trusts in Him! … Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.” —Psalm 34:8b, 10b

Reports from ministries serving in various parts of Mexico seem to include one descriptive word in common—LACK. Whether it be jobs, food, education, or hope, there is something lacking. Many areas served by faithful pastors consist of villages that one described as “practically forgotten.”

Pastor F.H. sent this report from a small community of 1,000 inhabitants in Chiapas: “A desire to evangelize in the community awakened in the church even though we did not have the materials appropriate to do it. We prayed for several months to find adequate evangelistic material. We were told about EHC Mexico and immediately called to request literature to overcome this obstacle. When we received the material we immediately went to the community to evangelize, reaching all the families, an activity that resulted in more than 350 souls giving their lives to the Lord.”

In 2017 WMP began our Hope for Mexico campaign to send three semi-trailer loads of Spanish Scripture booklets (at a cost of $80,000 per load) to assist EHC Mexico in completing a nationwide home-to-home evangelism project. Donors responded, and the fully-funded shipments were delivered in January, 2018. EHC Mexico Director, Gloria L. sent a moving message of gratitude:

“As a result of distributing the holy seed sent by World Missionary Press, thousands of people have received the Word of God to feed their hungry souls—people who never had the opportunity to know that there is freedom from the captivity of sin, there is peace for tormented souls, and there is hope for those who roam in darkness.   . . .Thank you. The fruits of your hard work are new believers in Mexico.”

Now, in these days of suffering and uncertainty, there is a strong move among believers in Mexico to carry this message of hope and peace across the country. Hearts are heavy and searching for comfort.

A testimony from Pastor H. demonstrates how the Spirit moves in hearts and uses the power of the Word to fill the lack in a life. As he met a man passing through a park, “we gave him the booklet, Who Am I that a King Would Die in My Place? After taking a couple of steps, he stopped and told me that in neither movies nor tales could you see a king die for the people. He asked, ‘Who is this king?’ I answered that He was the ‘King of kings’ and that His name is Jesus Christ and He died on the cross and rose from the dead to save us from being enslaved by sin. Then he said, ‘What must I do for Him to be my king?’ I told him that you have only to confess your sins to Jesus and accept Him as your Lord and believe in your heart that God lifted Him from the dead and then you shall be saved. I also said, ‘You can find this in the Bible in Romans 10:8-10.’ He decided to receive Christ into his heart, and today enjoys the salvation that only God can provide. This is the main reason why my heart longed to go out to the streets and announce the good news of salvation.”

The emptiness in home after home is being filled as the Word of God is received. Someone comes to the door to offer a Scripture booklet and perhaps some conversation. The booklet stays after the visitor is gone. Weeks may go by, but the message cannot be ignored, and the Spirit touches the heart and brings a lost sheep into the fold.

In recent months, WMP has been able to provide Scripture booklets for a growing work in north central Mexico. After experiencing positive responses from an initial supply and discovering many pastors in the region wanting to receive Scripture booklets, a new order was sent to help with plans for outreach events and strategic distribution. Again and again the Lord leads in His time, bringing new partners and opportunities for Scripture booklets to meet the need of those willing to go into the streets and homes so that none will be “forgotten.”

Along the US/Mexico border, many WMP distributors are sharing with pastors in Mexico and meeting people coming across the border or waiting in groups on one side or the other. Here people are looking. Here God seeks. The love of Jesus is shared by caring for physical needs as well as providing words of truth and hope.

Many years ago, a man felt called to Mexico but was unsure just how to proceed. He began by crossing the border day after day, often just walking and giving out World Missionary Press Scripture booklets. Then he moved into Mexico and began sharing the booklets wherever he could. Year by year the opportunities grew as pastors realized there was a source for reliable, Bible-based literature that could help their own congregations reach their communities. Over the years millions of booklets have been received and shared through this man that at one time carried a single box of booklets across the border on foot.

Praise God for all He is doing to reach the people of Mexico!

Grateful Quotes

“Help from Above is a mini-Bible”

“I am an evangelist. We take these booklets, along with Bibles, food, and personal items, to physically feed the homeless, the less fortunate struggling since the Covid pandemic, and into the homes of seniors. Our goal is to help meet their needs while also feeding them spiritually with Jesus. . . .

“I have been saved for 32 years now, and I must say the booklets you have provided are far better than any I have ever seen. I already mailed some to people I know in the Philippines and Poland who were all very excited to see you had them in their native tongue.

“I pray that God uses your mission like He has ours. I truly love Help from Above. It’s not just a guide to salvation, but it’s a mini-Bible for Christians to learn how to live a Christ-like life. God bless you for all you have done.”

Teresa B.
Accounting Assistant

For many years I worked at a local printing company, and WMP was one of our customers. My department had prepared quotes/estimates and invoices for WMP. I found their salvation coloring books were a great tool for my children to get to know Christ better.

I was praying to grow my bookkeeping business as I looked for clients, praying also for opportunities to share the gospel freely with others as well as to be surrounded by other Christians. When I saw the opening for an accounting assistant at WMP, I knew it was an answer to prayer. God had placed me in the right circumstances to be able to take on this important mission at WMP. My goal is to uphold Colossians 3:23 in the workforce: “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”

On March 31, 2021, I started working at WMP as an Accounting Assistant. I love working with like-minded, Christ-filled co-workers and supervisors who love to follow Christ and be a part of God’s plan to spread the gospel around the world.

I have many hobbies such as hiking nature trails, helping others, Bible studies, computers, biking, crafts, cooking, boating, gardening, amateur photography, designing my website, and living a healthy lifestyle.

I love spending time with my family and being involved in church activities with my church family. I have been married to my husband, Joel, for 28 years. He has been my best friend since high school and youth group. Our daughter, Nikki, who will be a senior this fall, is very talented with computers, and we are praying for her to be able to attend a Christian college with a full-ride scholarship to fulfill her dream of becoming a computer software engineer and that God will use her talents to glorify Him.

We attend a local church that has had a positive influence in our family’s life and has nurtured our faith with a great sense of belonging. By God’s grace, we have overcome the trials and tribulations sent by the enemy as our faith in God encouraged us to endure these trials. Although it is not easy to raise a family in today’s world, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD (Joshua 24:15b)”.

WMP Partners Around the World

Hope Community Church
Michigan

Volunteers at World Missionary Press are an integral part of preparing Scripture booklets for distributors around the world. It is a special privilege to have young people come and give of themselves by doing whatever task is needed to assist our staff. They bring a joy and energy that encourages us as we see God preparing the next generation to carry His Word to the world.

WMP: Tell us about Hope Community Church.

Pastor Paul: Hope Community Church is located in Ypsilanti, Michigan. We believe the essential things of the Christian faith. We love and worship Jesus Christ, believing that He died and rose again to pay for our sins. We believe that He is the only way of salvation and that the Bible is God’s truth.

WMP: How did you learn about WMP?

Pastor Paul: We learned about World Missionary Press when Leah, a missionary from our church, met Jay and Vicky Benson nine years ago at a retreat for missionaries. They showed much love for her and interest in her work in Europe. She contacted Pastor Paul and asked if there was any way our church could be a blessing to World Missionary Press, since she herself was receiving such blessing from this wonderful missions-minded ministry.

WMP: How long has the church been working with WMP?

Pastor Paul: In 2013 we brought about thirty volunteers to serve at the Press. The next year as word spread about the joy of serving at WMP, the number of volunteers doubled. Now every year in June, we send about 75 workers, usually in small groups that serve for several days, and are then replaced by the next group.

WMP: How has this partnership blessed your young people?

Pastor Paul: First, it is a lovely training opportunity for our youth. They practice serving Jesus with their whole hearts as they help produce New Testaments and Scripture booklets as well as helping with cleaning, repairs, landscaping, and more. Second, it is a beautiful time of interaction with veteran Christian workers who serve at WMP. They may join us for meals, share their experiences, and give us a vision of how God leads and answers prayer. Third, we learn how God uses WMP Scripture booklets in many lands and languages.

Our young people return home with greater Christian maturity, as they have learned to work together and find joy in doing whatever job is assigned. Every Thanksgiving each family in our church receives a container to fill with coins as they pray for the ministry. It is a blessing to have a small part in this great ministry.

“Last week I was at World Missionary Press with my church volunteering. Working there was the best work I think I have ever done. God is doing something amazing there and growing us who come there to help. I have never experienced something like that, and it has had a big impact on me. The testimonies I heard truly put a lot in perspective that I personally have been going through and showed how faithful God always is in everything. I look forward to volunteering again!”

Reaching Out in Ethiopia

“Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God.” —2 Corinthians 9:10-11

Diriba and his friends have one main goal: to reach the people in their country who are not in Christ. They boldly wrote, asking WMP for help in reaching 5 million Ethiopians in the coming year and requesting one million Scripture booklets! What zeal and vision! While we could not provide that large a number, we offered to provide a beginning order in the languages they requested—Amharic and Oromic (Oromiffa), spoken by the majority of the people of Ethiopia as their first language—which will enable their team to give the story of Jesus and His love to many in this nation of 112 million.

Though bordered by nations often hostile to the preaching of the gospel, Ethiopia is blessed to have laws allowing for freedom of religion, and the doors are open for sharing the good news. The Joshua Project reports 37 unreached people groups in Ethiopia with a combined population of 33 million, almost one third the nation’s total population.

WMP’s national coordinator in Ethiopia, Samuel B., expressed how valuable literature is in doing the work of evangelism in his country. “One of the ways we get to share the gospel here in Ethiopia,” he wrote, “is through Scripture booklets. Literature has a way of getting to places where people can’t. It has a way of touching people’s hearts and changing their lives forever.”

During the recent pandemic, new opportunities emerged, and literature played a vital role in taking full advantage of those opportunities. In Ethiopia literature is especially used in reaching Muslims. During the pandemic, it was used more than ever because it was a safe way to share the gospel. In the northern part of the country, they saw great victory when one of their volunteers organized tables around the city, displaying different kinds of literature so people could come and see and take anything they wanted to read. It was a way he could share the gospel when the churches were closed. Samuel B. added, “Literature is also a way we reach people in prison. We have seen many prisoners’ lives changed through the literature.”

Although the gospel came to Ethiopia in the first century, many Christians today face persecution and confrontation. Muslims who have accepted Christ often face violence and death threats. Recent news reports tell of militant attacks on Christians, with many believers living with the ongoing threat of attack (Barnabas Fund, April 2021). By providing free topical Scripture booklets in the languages of the people, WMP comes alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ, offering tools for reaching out to those in need, even in sometimes hostile situations.

For almost 30 years World Missionary Press has provided Scripture booklets for Ethiopia, sending 3.7 million booklets to help various ministries as well as individuals and small groups. Biniyam G. is an example of an individual who wrote, “Me and my friend are born-again Christians who strive to solve one of the problems in our location—the English language. So, we are trying to train people with a different background. In this process we are going to give them Christian books [in English] as working materials to read and discuss. Besides that, we need to read these books to grow in our spiritual understanding of the Word of God.” He ordered three copies of each of our English titles.

On behalf of his ministry, James M. wrote, “It’s been a year and a day since we last spoke via email, and I am happy to note we passed out every single gospel booklet you sent us at this time last year.…Thousands of people in the most remote and tribal places on earth are being evangelized by the dear missionaries I support. I just got notice that they need more, so I am reaching out to get another year’s worth (or so). We are in need and praying for 7,000 copies of Help from Above in Oromiffa (Borana).”

Ethiopia is no longer locked down, and our national coordinator reports that they are doing the work of the ministry across the nation. “To sum up,” he wrote, “literature is essential to reach countries like Ethiopia with the gospel. It is a shining hope for the people in the rural areas that have never heard the name, Jesus Christ; for the Muslim girl who has no way of reading the Word of God; and for those that have backed away from God and need encouragement to go back to Him. Literature is the way many people’s lives are changed for the better.”

WMP will soon be sending the 40-foot container (2 million booklets) requested by Samuel B. The door is open, hearts have been prepared, the workers are ready, and it’s time for them to receive the precious seed of God’s Word. Will you help them go boldly through the open doors and reach out to those who have never heard the precious name of Jesus?

[You can help provide God’s Word for Ethiopia and the world. Every donated dollar helps produce 29 powerful Scripture booklets for people around the world in their own language. An investment of $100 will touch the lives of 2,900 people; $1,000 will impact 29,000 people who need to know God.]

Grateful Quotes

Help from Above saved my life.

“We have a community labour booking office from which we’d like to distribute Help From Above booklets in terms of evangelism.

“One of these booklets really helped me to get to know God after trying to commit suicide. I found the booklet in a Muslim person’s home, so I believe it sometimes may not be for the person who takes the booklet but for somebody elsewhere, just as it saved my life.”

Meet the Team

In Memory of Robert G. Moore, Sr.

April 12, 1937—February 21, 2021

Board of Directors (1980-2020)

“I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes” (Romans 1:16b).

Bob Moore lived this verse, sharing the gospel with all through word and deed. Bob often witnessed to others and helped those in need, including them in his network of friends. When the Lord put someone on Bob’s heart, he prayed faithfully for them, sometimes for years.

Bob frequently brought people to the Press for a tour, chapel, or invited them to WMP’s anniversary celebration. He was generous, always first to pay the tab at a restaurant or get involved in a project. Most importantly, Bob was a strong believer in the power of God’s Word. He served as a board member for 40+ years (chairman for 11), and on the Finance Committee for many years. During his decades of service, Bob had a major role in making WMP the ministry it is today.

Bob was funny and quick-witted. Often, when meetings got lively, Bob would make a joke to get everyone laughing. He also brought his business savvy to our discussions, lending valuable experience. Even when a decision didn’t go his way, he supported it once it was made. He valued and exemplified unity.

In 1988, Bob wrote, “I believe in World Missionary Press because I believe it is the most efficient way to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. The printed Word eliminates the possibility of building a monument to men. It is the purest form of the Word incarnate – Christ Himself. Habakkuk 2:14 says it best: ‘For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.’ I am happy to be a small part of the fulfillment of that verse.”

During Bob’s tenure, WMP produced nearly 2 billion pieces of gospel literature. Imagine the souls reached! How many are even now thanking Bob for the part he played in introducing them to Jesus? WMP will miss Bob greatly; we look forward to seeing him again in the presence of the Lord.

WMP Partners Around the World

Frans K.

Indonesia

Frans K. has served as the WMP National Coordinator in Indonesia since 2010. Because printed materials in national languages may not be imported, WMP materials are printed in Indonesia under Frans’ capable direction and reporting. After the death of his precious wife, Frans took up the task of translating WMP’s new God Loves You! coloring book into Indonesian.

WMP: How are you able to distribute WMP literature in your country?

Frans: We partner with individuals, churches, Christian organizations, bookstores, and schools, providing material for revival meetings, pastor’s meetings, prison ministry and mission outreaches to other islands.

WMP: How have the pandemic, natural disasters, and attacks by militant Islamists affected distribution and effectiveness of the Scripture booklets?

Frans: PRAISE THE LORD, in the middle of COVID-19 pandemic pressures and challenges in life, God has still poured out His love. He gave us Sunday School teachers, volunteers, evangelists, and pastors, in many and wide opportunities to bring the Good News to many young and old through distributing WMP booklets.

WMP: Can you tell us about the reception of the new God Loves You! coloring book and Bible studies you recently printed?

Frans: God used those booklets as tools to reach many children and adults. A group of the Sunday School teachers visited an island near Manado, the Island of Siladen, 1.5 hours by small boat. They gave the Bible studies on John and Mathew to the pastor of the Protestant church in the island. These booklets brought them to know more of Jesus Christ the Savior and confirm their faith in this time of great challenges.

WMP: How can our readers pray for you and Indonesia?

Frans: We need prayer for distribution of the WMP booklets to people and churches who ordered, and for our volunteers and staff in the field. It’s our determination that as long as God gives us time and opportunities, we will proceed to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We will continue to distribute these booklets to many places in Indonesia. We would like to express our gratitude to WMP Director, staff, and donors that make every effort to provide, print and distribute the booklets through WMP Indonesia. Thank you very much. In the precious name of CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD.

In the past four months, Frans has overseen the printing of 1.3 million WMP Scripture booklets, Bible studies, and salvation coloring books in the Indonesian language to send throughout this predominantly Muslim nation of 276 million people, spread over thousands of islands.

Offering Resurrection Life!

“Because I live, you will live also.” —John 14:19b

My life was in hell when my husband drank,” said Anita. “There was nothing but physical aggression and he did not provide for our home.” Anita saw no way out of the continuing cycle of hopelessness and despair. But God saw the need of this family in Mexico and sent visitors to their door who brought the powerful Word of God into their home. Joyfully, Anita and her husband Francisco accepted the gift of God’s grace and salvation, bringing peace and new life. “Now that Jesus Christ is in control of my home,” said Anita, “I now know what it means to have peace. My husband treats me well and provides for our needs; before he did not have work. I thank my heavenly Father for the blessing we have received and, as the Word says, ‘As for me and my family, we shall serve Jehovah.’ ”

In this season, we focus more intently on the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead—the foundation for our hope in this world and the world to come. His power to defeat the Enemy of our souls, who offers only death, is also the power for victory in our daily lives.

Millions who have never heard the name of Jesus, who are living without the eternal hope found in Christ, are waiting to discover “new life.” Directing people to this discovery is the vision of World Missionary Press. Offering Scripture booklets in 350 languages demonstrates that God’s love and salvation is for ALL—no matter who they are, where they live, or what language they speak. And, oh, the joy that comes when the Spirit implants the Word into the heart!

Kadeem B. wrote, “I must first [express] how much I have loved your booklets! My first experience with them was when my mother brought one home from her visit to the Salvation Army here in Jamaica. I was so entranced, I spent literally hours going through and through that little booklet, Help from Above. It came to me in a time when I needed it most, as I had only just accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior. Sadly, it has become a bit worn now, with the cover all but falling off. Recently my mother came with another tiny booklet, The Way to God, and I was sooo excited. Now I have two!

“Excitement aside,” he continued, “I am part of a group of young men and women in my church who have joined together to dedicate time to encourage each other in the Lord. I would love it if each of my brethren, or as many as possible, could have an opportunity to experience these booklets as I have. I am one hundred percent positive that it WILL be as great a help to each of them as it was for me.”

For almost 60 years, World Missionary Press has been providing topical Scripture booklets in multiple languages. The effectiveness of the booklets has led to increased demand year by year, bringing us recently to a level of producing the equivalent of 10 million Scripture booklets the size of Help from Above per month! Shipments are lined up, waiting for clearance to send out to several nations.

New products have been added, which include God Loves You!, a beautifully illustrated coloring book with associated verses, ideal for children and adults; Who Do You Say That I Am?, containing some of the powerful things Jesus said about who He is and why He came to earth; and Alive in Christ, a new study book designed to disciple new believers in their walk with God. Of particular interest is a new handout entitled The Path to Life, which features striking illustrations designed to support the reality of the accompanying Scripture verses. A new online animation feature has been added to this already popular ministry item. QR codes on four of the pages can be scanned, taking the reader to an animation based on the Scripture topic of the page. The four animations can be viewed collectively here: www.wmplif-eng.org.

To request a sample packet with a copy of each of these new products, e-mail mailroom@wmpress.org.

A recent matching-funds campaign, “Blessings for Brazil,” offered opportunity to help provide multiple containers of Scripture booklets for Brazil. This project has been strongly supported, providing for 6.4 million booklets. We want to continue this momentum by raising funds for an additional 3.6 million booklets (for a total of 10 million booklets) that will go throughout this vast and populous nation. We praise God for His provision through those who sense the need and answer the call. There is so much more to be done!

“I am from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,” wrote Eliana C. “We need a lot of Scripture booklets for evangelizing in our community.… We have many boys involved in trafficking and teenage girls already pregnant. We ask your help to evangelize and win those souls for Christ!”

From India, Bishop Amil W. wrote, “One of my pastor friends told me about you and gave me your website information. We have ministry among students who don’t know Christ. We have a burden to carry the gospel to them; we have a jail ministry among them. We also have ministry to 35 villages where nobody knows Christ as their personal Savior. Dear sir, kindly provide.”

The transforming power of the Word of God is demonstrated in homes and hearts across the globe. The single act of offering a clear and concise presentation of the gospel through a WMP Scripture booklet can rescue a soul from a Christless eternity, possibly beginning a divinely-inspired chain reaction that will affect an entire village.

[You can offer LIFE by providing God’s Word for free distribution throughout the world. Grateful Quotes

God is an awesome provider!

“I left a message and sent an email through the website to see if you had a record of my last order because I wanted to duplicate it. Well, I hadn’t heard back, so I thought I had better figure out the amounts and get online to order because I had used up what I had on my previous Haiti flight. (I’m a flight attendant with Missionary Flights Int’l.)

“I got home that day, and the order was at my door! What a blessing! You’re wonderful. God is an awesome provider!

“Here are a couple of my best stories of giving the booklets to missionaries on our flights, and their joy in the unexpected provision. One group was so excited because they had hoped to get some Kreyol tracts but ran out of time before the trip. Another group had planned to meet with a translator in Haiti and decide what to do for the men’s Bible Study they were planning. I always package several English copies with the Kreyol. The Bible Study of Matthew was perfect! To God be the glory!”

Full-Color Press Apprentice

When I was younger, I heard about World Missionary Press on the radio. I really liked the mission’s vision of sending out the gospel by literature. I’ve always been fond of missionary work, even as a child.

During college, my perspective changed on what it means to do outreach, as I realized how much need there is to have tools like WMP’s Scripture booklets. I really appreciate how concise and portable the booklets and handouts are. They really help direct conversations when witnessing to others.

I come from a family of seven and have a twin sister. How I came to work at World Missionary Press is a long story, but after we moved from Boston and I saw an open position at WMP online, the choice was easy.

I’ve been working at World Missionary Press for about three months now as an apprentice learning to operate the full-color offset press. What I love best about working here are the people and the ministry goals.

My hobbies are canoeing, art, and wilderness first aid.

WMP Partners Around the World

Bob & Mary H.

Haiti

In highlighting the many, many WMP partners who receive and share larger quantities of Scripture booklets around the world, we find new appreciation for God’s plan to use families, churches, large ministries, etc. to accomplish His purpose. What a blessing to supply those who are willing to give of themselves and be involved in presenting Christ and His wondrous love in word and deed.

One couple, working through an extension ministry of their local church, has been faithfully packing boxes of WMP Scripture booklets, Bibles studies, and New Testaments for shipment to Haiti for more than ten years. This vision guides the efforts of the ministry:

“God is glorified as despair and suffering are alleviated, hearts and minds are transformed, and churches are established and nurtured.”

WMP: Bob and Mary, please describe how you share WMP literature for Haiti?

Bob & Mary: Our local church’s Haiti committee has been involved in sending sea containers with Bibles and material aid to Haiti since 1987. We first started helping in 1989 with collecting materials and packing the containers. Since 2010, we have been in charge of shipments which go to Hospital Lumiere in Haiti. When the hospital asks us for more WMP literature, we drive up to New Paris to pick up the boxes. A shipment from WMP is enough for 9-10 months.

WMP: How did you learn about WMP material?

Bob & Mary: One of our pastors had visited World Missionary Press and recommended to our committee your resources in Kreyol. The first written order that I have in my file was in 2009, but the missionary requesting the booklets and New Testaments had been distributing them before that. (Over the years, Bob & Mary have packed 776 boxes from WMP with 109,574 pieces of literature.)

WMP: How does having free literature help the hospital staff share the gospel?

Bob & Mary: It’s very helpful to have such an excellent resource of Scriptural materials printed in Kreyol. The hospital chaplains feel the Scripture booklets are a valuable asset in starting spiritual conversations and sharing the gospel individually with the patients. New Testaments and copies of A Bible Study on Matthew are used in discipleship.

November 2020 Newsletter

“Together we are Stronger.”

“The effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”—Ephesians 4:16b

Alan wanted to serve the Lord through urban evangelism in his city in eastern Brazil, but he had no material that would help him share the gospel; so he contacted World Missionary Press.

“I need donations of materials for evangelism,” he wrote. “Whatever you can donate to me will be a blessing in my life because I will be using it for urban evangelism activities that I carry out by the grace and mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ…. If you have any material that can help me to improve my way of evangelizing, I am ready to learn a little more for the benefit of the Kingdom of God that will be done through your donations and my going to the field. Together we are stronger.”

Alan shared his personal testimony: “I was [once] arrested for drug trafficking and guerrilla training. Today I am free because someone told me about the love of God through Jesus Christ. Today I am 22 years old.…Help me to bring others to Jesus Christ through your beautiful and blessed evangelism material.”

Reaching a populous, multi-ethnic nation spread out over one half of the land surface of South America requires a master plan of organization, staff, and resources. Our all-wise and loving God has called out preachers, evangelists, missionaries, and individuals to take His Word to every corner of Brazil through many media sources, including Scripture booklets in Portuguese from World Missionary Press.

From Rio de Janeiro, WMP’s national coordinator, Erno E., sends material into the far regions of Brazil—a daunting challenge over distances of up to 2,700 miles—as well as concentrating on the 6.7 million people in his city.

Clovis N., located in the city of Guarulhos in the State of São Paulo, mainly serves greater São Paulo, with its more than 20 million inhabitants.

Francisco R. serves from São Paulo as well, but also sends hundreds of thousands of booklets into Brazil’s northeastern states, where idolatry and witchcraft are rampant. Local pastors have seen the gospel replace witchcraft centers with churches established by new believers as light pushes out the darkness (see page 4). He wrote, “Two brothers took boxes 1,700 miles by truck to a major distributor in a remote city in the state of Para, who would spread the booklets all over the state, which has more than ten million people. Praise the Lord!”

Long-time distributor Ademir C. has concentrated his work in the Amazon region, supporting ministries working up and down the river and reaching out to the more than 20 million inhabitants of this region.

Pastor Leandro, who lives in the northernmost and least populated state of Brazil, wrote: “I live 160 kilometers from the capital. Here we cannot receive a telephone line signal, only the internet, so we can communicate only via WhatsApp or Email. I am writing to find out how I can acquire material so that I can do evangelism in this community that needs to know Jesus. Around 350 inhabitants live in the village, with many other nearby residents in rural properties.”

A pastor in Ariquemes, the third-largest city in Rondônia State, reported that when he received eight boxes of assorted Scripture booklets, the church distributed the booklets to the local people. “Many became Christians,” he wrote, “after reading the rich booklets and are being discipled by the pastors of the church.”

[You can help provide God’s Word for Brazil! Every donated dollar provides for producing 26 powerful Scripture booklets. An investment of $100 will touch the lives of 2,600 people; $1,000 will impact 26,000 people who need to know God. Every dollar earmarked for Brazil will be matched—up to $110,000—doubling your impact on this vast nation!]

Grateful Quotes

They received the Word with joy!

“We are faced with difficult situations due to the pandemic. Please keep us in prayers as we take the Word of God, reaching out to people with the Scripture booklets. Pray for us to be guided by the Holy Spirit on how we can continue to reach out to people, as the pandemic has caused a lot of fear among our people.

“People were in fear even of taking the booklets we were giving them, but we found a way. Having tangible things to hand them, like a pair of shoes from Soles for Jesus, which they needed, opened a door for us to also give them the Scripture booklets. We shared the Word of God with them, and they were joyful. We gave them Help from Above, which is Thuso e tsoang holimo in our language (Sesotho).

“It’s always our prayer that more people will be saved and be reached with WMP materials in the nations of the world. We bless the Lord for the ministry that WMP is doing. Continue the good work; the mission is possible.

Volunteer

I heard about World Missionary Press from my fiancée (now my wife). We also heard about the housing option for people who work at WMP, and that caught our attention. In March 2020, I immigrated to the United States from the Netherlands to get married and am not allowed to work until I get a working visa or green card. Having a lot of free time, I decided to do volunteer work for the Kingdom of God. WMP is a great way for me to help build the Kingdom of God. I started in April, 2020, and was still waiting for my working permit at the end of September.

During the strict COVID-19 lockdown, I worked at one of the binderies four days a week. Now I am a press assistant at the 6-color press. Together with Brian L., we print all the full-color booklet covers as well as The Path to Life handouts.

I like to work at WMP because it has such a great impact on the global Church. If you support WMP in any way (for me, it’s by volunteering), you contribute to a monthly distribution of millions of Scripture booklets sent free all over the world. These booklets help other Christians have a deeper relationship with God and tell unbelievers about Jesus and the salvation plan God has for their life. The idea of being part of that makes me excited! Since I also feel called to be involved in sharing the gospel around the world, WMP is a great way to be a part of that right now.

In my free time, I play guitar and spend a lot of time with my wife. I like to read and walk in nature. It is interesting to see how American nature is different from Dutch nature. I also study English, go to church, and video-call people in the Netherlands. I was born and raised in Dordrecht, where my parents and siblings still live, so my only family in the U.S. is on my wife’s side. I am the youngest of my family with two brothers and one sister. I am also an uncle with four nephews and five nieces.

WMP Partners Around the World

Francisco R.

Brazil

The South American nation of Brazil is home to more than 200 million people living in rain forests, highlands, mega-cities, and coastal villages. World Missionary Press has provided Scripture booklets in Portuguese for distributors in Brazil for more than 50 years. Help from Above in Portuguese, one of the earliest translations, was first printed in 1967.

Dr. Francisco R. has actively shared WMP literature in Brazil and around the world for 36 years. He has mentored many others in using WMP Scripture booklets to share the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ.

WMP: Francisco, please describe your background and current ministry.

Francisco: We have distributed WMP Scripture booklets at the door of subways, in bus stations, airports, and marketplaces all over Brazil. I have sent them by mail to pastors in remote areas of Brazil, where idolatry and witchcraft prevail, as the pastors cannot afford to buy the written Word to give out to the people. For thirty years we traveled in 36 other countries in five continents—from Australia to Belgium and into the Middle East—giving booklets to people in their own language, with many testimonies of joy as people received the booklets and conversions began after a quick reading of the Bible verses. The work continues in Brazil. We’re not traveling as before, but sending once in a while to another country.

WMP: How did you get involved in distributing WMP literature?

Francisco: I came across a World Missionary Press booklet and then asked for booklets in Portuguese. In 1984 I received my first two boxes and began distribution.

WMP: How long does a container shipment of Scripture booklets last?

Francisco: We are now receiving one 40-foot container (2 million booklets) a year. It lasts about six months, because Brazil has more than 200 million people and the requests are many from all over the country. [Francisco also receives shipments of booklets in Spanish for areas on the border with Paraguay and Bolivia.]

WMP: How effective are the topical Scripture booklets in your country?

Francisco: The effectiveness is great because the people here in Brazil like the written Word very much, and there are many testimonies of conversions. For instance, in two cities in the countryside of Piaui state, two witchcraft centers closed, and now there are two churches full of new converts as a result of reading the booklets from WMP. In our travels, a lady in Vienna, Austria, came to me smiling and giving thanks for the Help from Above booklet in German that I had given her. A girl in Hong Kong, after reading some verses from the booklet in Chinese, asked me for the address of the church that I belonged to. I gave her the address of the Baptist church that was hosting me there.

WMP: How do the Bible studies and Scripture booklets help establish believers and strengthen churches in Brazil?

Francisco: I have an example from a countryside city of Pernambuco in northeast Brazil. Evangelists gathered the people of the city in a school, and as they were explaining the plan of salvation, the leader asked the people to open their booklets to such and such a page and so on. That night 62 people accepted Jesus as their Savior! Most of the people in these places don’t have a Bible, so it isn’t possible to estimate the value of these booklets with topics and 300 verses in each one. To many of them, this will be their Bible for a long time, or even until their death.
