Hindus Turning to Christ in Pakistan

This inspiring report comes from Nadeem M., WMP's coordinator in Pakistan:

Last year, in response to flooding in Pakistan, several organizations offered us financial support to reach those flood-affected areas, but we guided them to send their support to organizations which were working directly in the flood zone, since we ourselves were not reaching there.

But we sent many WMP Scripture booklets to those areas. Thousands and thousands of the booklets were distributed in flood-affected areas as most of the [relief] teams got books from us and distributed them along with food supplies and other aid.

Almost one full year passed. Then last month, someone contacted me from an area near K-- A-- City and reported that when people were running after trucks to get food, they were given some small booklets which they took [home] and read.

The person who called me told me that he is a Hindu and that there are many Hindu tribes. They are a very small minority in Pakistan and therefore are very poor and have no opportunity to exercise their  religion. Their current generation does not know anything about  Hinduism, and they are [considered] "no one" in the society. He told me that those booklets were very helpful for them to read about God and Jesus Christ, and they wished to know more.

They had shared the teaching of the booklets with other family members, and the whole tribe wanted to know more about Christianity.

They met a pastor named Asher and requested that he visit them and teach them about Christianity. Asher used those wonderful WMP booklets and taught them for almost eight months. Finally, those people contacted us and told us that their whole community is ready to come to Christ because of those booklets. We were really very happy for that.

They came to visit us, bringing the Urdu language booklets How to Know God and The Power of God to show us which booklets they had received, and told us how their lives have been changed. We planned to visit those people, as we felt led to encourage them in Christ. When we visited that area, we found that they were sincere and honest people.

This is major news - about 85 members of the tribe have come to Christ because of these booklets. Hallelujah! This tribe believes that hundreds of other Hindus will also come to Christ when they share their cause with them.

This all has really blessed us, and we praise God for this opportunity.

The work is being done very fast. So many boxes of booklets are reaching different cities and places in Pakistan. Thousands of children and adults are being blessed to use WMP booklets. We are thankful to the whole WMP ministry for such great support.

[Christians in Pakistan are experiencing increasing persecution. Your help in providing Scripture booklets and salvation coloring books will make an impact for eternity. A $100 gift will provide for more than 2,000 Urdu Scripture booklets. A gift of $1,000 will provide 20,000. Every dollar counts!]

A Heart for the Souls of Myanmar

Torrential rains across Myanmar (Burma) in August caused widespread damage and loss. Many wooden bridges, including some that were connecting parts of the country, were destroyed. More than 5,000 families were evacuated into temporary relief camps in schools, monasteries, and prayer halls.

Flood damage caused huge losses in agriculture, fish business, transportation, and communication, especially impacting the lives of poor farmers (whose fields were covered with salt water) and devastating low-income families who work daily just to feed their families. Homes were flooded. More than 180,000 acres of paddy land were inundated.

Martin L., WMP's coordinator for Myanmar, is among those seeking to help people in need with food packages, medicine, clean water, and house supplies. Martin also has a heart for the souls of Myanmar's people. He networks with us in translating and printing WMP booklets in Burmese, Mizo, and other tribal languages.

In May, Martin requested 30,000 copies of the God Loves You salvation coloring book in the Mizo language and 30,000 copies of A Bible Study on Genesis in Burmese for a total cost of $10,500. We were excited by the potential impact of these first-time printings - reaching children in different parts of Kalaymyo and in Mizoram, India, an area bordering on Myanmar, as well as providing Burmese Bible studies for new believers around the country.

However, because of under-budget contributions at the time, both projects had to be delayed.  How we praised God when World Missionary Press of Canada, Inc., informed us in late August of their decision to take on these projects!

You can read or download God Loves You in English at: www.wmpress.org/kidskorner/Godlovesyou.pdf

The same day we heard the good news from World Missionary Press of Canada, we received an urgent request from Martin concerning the need for Help From Above Scripture booklets in the Burmese and Mizo languages to distribute around the country along with flood disaster relief aid. His supply of WMP materials is low. "We would like to print about 100,000 booklets at a cost of $5,000 as soon as possible. . . . More than 60 WMP booklet distributors throughout Myanmar are waiting for new booklets, which make their ministries more effective and useful."

[You can provide spiritual food for the devastated people of Myanmar. A gift of $20 will provide 400 Mizo or Burmese Help From Above Scripture booklets. An investment of $200 will reach 4,000 people; $1,000 will touch 20,000 with the hope of the gospel.]

An "Accidental" Journey to Darjeeling

During their journey to India in July, Jay Benson and Harold Mack planned to visit the Himilayan town of Darjeeling, a three-hour drive from the home base of Solon K., national director of Every Home for Christ and a major WMP distributor. Jay reports catching his breath as he glanced over unguarded precipices into deep ravines.

For miles they observed a narrow-gauge railroad track positioned alongside the road, sometimes crossing the road to shorten a turn. Once they actually saw the train, with a man aggressively shoveling fuel into the stoker to provide energy for the engine to pull its load up the mountain.

Jay and Harold had planned to see what they understood to be a significant part of Solon's operations in Darjeeling. So they were stunned to find out that the only reason Solon was taking them on this journey was because they had requested to go there!

But God does all things well. Not only did they have opportunity in Darjeeling to purchase authentic Darjeeling tea for their wives, but also they were blessed to meet one of Solon's friends, Pastor Claude B., whose church of 1,500 members had planted 158 churches! Students of their one-year Bible training program become pastors of their church plants.

Pastor Claude had already used Help From Above and The Way to God to some extent, but we envision that he and his many church plants may become a major user of WMP Scripture booklets in the future.

Meeting Pastor Claude at the end of the long and breath-taking journey that day may well have been the reason for "accidentally" going to Darjeeling!

Argentina: Example of the Need to Increase Production

WMP's coordinator in Argentina, Rino B. (national director for Every Home Christ), first requested replenishments back in March of 2010 when he stated, "I write to you to request, if possible, WMP literature . . . . We have very little stock of this precious literature" (March 18, 2010); and "We appreciate your help because many of our distributors prefer WMP literature. It is excellent!" (March 26, 2010).

One year and five months later, Rino e-mailed his thanks: "Praise the Lord! Today, Thursday August 25, from 9:00 a.m. we are unloading the WMP shipment."

WMP coordinators often wait a year or more for badly-needed supplies. For four months this year, we had to slow in-plant production to the equivalent of 3,000,000 Scripture booklets per month because of under-budget income.

We praise God that an unexpected gift of mutual funds, liquidated with WMP as the beneficiary, enabled us to increase production to 5,000,000 a month in August and September. We are actually poised for greatly increased production - with equipment, staff, and volunteers available for producing 9,000,000 per month - just needing funds for paper, ink, and shipping. Because basic overhead would already be paid, each additional million Scripture booklets printed in-plant would cost only $25,500 on average. What an amazing impact is possible in our world for so little! Please make this a matter of earnest prayer.

Pat Caspary was raised in a family of ten in American suburbia, but as the tumultuous 1960s took their course, Pat went the way of drugs, arrests, and the hippie lifestyle.

The Jesus Movement swept hundreds of thousands of young souls (including Pat) into the kingdom of God nearly 40 years ago. Immediately, and for most of the next 16 years, Pat became a street evangelist and ministered in pulpits, leading teams onto the boulevards to share the Way, the Truth, and the Life found in Jesus.

In 1987, pressing into missions outreaches in Guatemala, Mexico, and then China (where Pat met Windy, the girl who became his wife), the fervency and dedication of ministry developed into full-time missionary work which has expanded into Burma and Thailand, where Pat and Windy live and preach the gospel in jungles.

World Missionary Press has provided Scripture booklets they have handed to tens of thousands during the past 23 years in Asia, among the tribal villages and inner-cities of the Buddhist bamboo nations.

Talented Musicians To Share in 50th Anniversary Celebration

Arturo Osorio and Chara Sonntag will present flute, piano, and vocal music - inspiring arrangements of hymns, worship songs, and classical melodies.

Arturo, originally from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, graduated from the National Conservatory of Music in Honduras and performed with the National Symphony Orchestra of Honduras 1999-2004. After graduating from Grace College with a degree in Music and a minor in Business Management, Arturo has been working full time as Director of Productions for the Christian Performing Artists' Fellowship and the MasterWorks Festival - ministries dedicated to spreading the gospel and encouraging Christian artists in the performing arts field.

Chara lives with her parents and sisters in Middlebury, Indiana, where she operates her private studio, Joyful Sounds Ministry Academy. She holds both Bachelor's (Judson College, AL) and Master's degrees (Ball State University, IN) in music performance. Chara serves as a church musician, as the pianist for the sacred music trio Soli Deo Gloria, and as a freelance soloist and accompanist for numerous ensembles across the region.

Arturo and Chara pray that their God - given musical gifts will bless, uplift, and inspire their audiences and exalt,  glorify, and honor the Name of Christ.

Special music begins at 5:30 as a prelude to the Dinner.

 Field Flash

Windy Caspary was born in a village in China and grew up in an atheistic  society. She always felt that there was something more to life. She searched for truth. While Windy was working in a hospital as a nurse, a Christian doctor led her to the Lord.

One and one-half years later, Windy met Pat, who was carrying Bibles into China. For 22 years since their marriage, Windy and Pat have teamed up to courageously and persistently preach, teach, and baptize people in dangerous and difficult areas of China, Thailand, and Burma. They have trained pastors and ministered to orphans and widows.

Windy is a gentle woman with a loving heart.

She testifies that World Missionary Press Scripture booklets are a vital tool they use in sharing the gospel everywhere they go.
