ONE SATURDAY in late February 2010, the ground in central Chile began to shake. A massive earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 and lasting 90 seconds turned buildings and lives upside down and triggered a tsunami which destroyed several coastal towns. Things that were counted on as reliable and lasting were gone. Nothing was the same. Aftershocks brought new fears of tsunami and destruction.

Three years earlier, one Tuesday in March 2007, a group of distributors met in Santiago, Chile, to share testimonies about the effectiveness of WMP booklets and impress on their visitors from World Missionary Press the urgent need for more booklets. Many of these people had traveled more than 200 miles from the city of Concepcion to be part of the planning for future distribution in Chile. WMP's new national coordinator for Chile was introduced, and long-time distributors from Concepcion pledged to help establish a centralized location to provide a continuing supply for that region.

Earthquakes are not uncommon in Chile. Buildings are designed to withstand the earth's tremors. Yet when the shaking came, it left immense need and devastation. But the preaching of the gospel is unhindered in Chile. Street preachers can be seen in Santiago. A history of revival from the early 20th century is still honored by churches throughout the land.

Yet millions of people in Chile are in spiritual want and face eternal devastation without the truth of the gospel. In his report from Concepcion, WMP's national coordinator Victor Stuardo writes, "Chile must return to God in repentance. We haven't kept His Word, and we have worshiped that which is not God. Lord, in this day give us strength to connect people to Christ."

Through his work with Every Home for Christ, Victor Stuardo has organized house-to-house distribution of literature, relying heavily on large quantities of WMP booklets. Sometimes there is an open door and an open heart. On one occasion, a man was visiting his mother's house when someone stopped at her door to share a booklet and the story of Jesus. He stood back from the door, listening from a distance. When he came closer, the visitor spoke to him personally about his need for a Savior. That day he and his mother accepted the Lord Jesus Christ.

Another Christian worker, assigned to share booklets in the subways and on the city's busy streets, reported that sometimes people don't accept the booklets, or are indifferent. A bank worker saw the booklet and said, "I don't need that stuff." The distributor feels that "the important thing is to keep working, keep preaching, and going to the people. There is a tremendous need everywhere." This testimony came before the earth shook, and security vanished into the sea. Today people in Chile are acknowledging their need.

Brother Armando was assigned to share Scripture booklets in a nursing home. When he entered, he could see many old men and women seated at round tables, silent and sad. His team greeted them, gave them God's Word, and prayed over them. They were so happy that someone was concerned with their spiritual well being. Most of the 30 senior citizens prayed that day to receive the Lord Jesus as Savior. Brother Armando ends his report, "That evening I went back home with a full heart and a joyful spirit. I thanked the Lord for being His servant and to have the honor to extend His kingdom."

It is this love for the Lord and love for their fellow countrymen that has led hundreds of distributors to rely on WMP booklets for many, many years. WMP is preparing another 40-ft. container for distribution in Chile. Workers are asking how soon it will arrive because they have very little left from the previous shipment, and the need is urgent.

Scenes all along the streets show broken buildings and broken roads. Trucks and cars are tossed around like toys. The structures will be rebuilt. New walls, new streets, new houses. But only God can mend a broken life.

"Jose was a drug addict, alcoholic and homeless. He was always swearing, being violent, throwing stones at the neighbors' houses - a real trouble-maker. No one wanted to be close to him, and often he spent time at the police station. His closest friends used drugs as well, and all of them [had been] kicked out of their homes. The families couldn't take it anymore. One day Jose ended up in jail. A Christian policeman spoke to him about Jesus. Jose gave himself to Jesus, and his life was transformed in an instant. Today his friends and family cannot believe what God has done in Jose's life. They made a big celebration for him."

Only God can fix a broken life. Only God can shine hope into darkness. Only God can give strength where there is only weakness.

God bless you in your daily faith walk with Him. May you and your loved ones find real joy as you pray and give toward the cause of reaching precious people with healing and hope from God's wonderful Word.

   Your friends in Christ,

P.S. God uses His Word to heal, to bring hope, to strengthen the weak. Your investment in producing and shipping the next container load to Chile will have great impact on thousands of souls. Every $20 will touch 500 people with God's Word. A $500 gift will reach 12,500 people.

Urgent Need for Printing in China

World Missionary Press is still looking to the Lord for designated funds to finance urgently needed printings of WMP topical Scripture booklets and Bible-study booklets in China. The opportunities for such printings are almost limitless. These printings will be done through independent networks, each producing material for their own evangelists and churches. Churches in China are experiencing tremendous growth and are looking for assistance only in providing the extensive amount of evangelism and teaching tools needed to strengthen new believers as well as to share Christ where He is not yet known. They shine in the face of all obstacles and ask only for the tools to continue.

[A gift of $100 can reach 2,950 Chinese with the good news. A $1,000 investment can reach 29,500 Chinese with the way to forgiveness and eternal life. $31,400 could provide one million booklets, strategically reaching villagers through China.]

Literature for Bible School in Democratic Republic of Congo

A long-time friend of one of WMP's bindery workers was recently introduced to WMP Scripture booklets. He took samples with him on a trip to the Bible school in Adi, Democratic Republic of Congo, where he and his wife had served. They were enthusiastic, asking how they could receive a supply for their students to use in their regular outreach on the streets of the surrounding towns and villages. WMP is gladly sending a pallet (246 boxes) of booklets in nine languages. We are networking with Samaritan's Purse to have this material delivered with one of their shipments.

[Each box with 520 Scripture booklets costs about $20.00. Your gift can reach people in the Democratic Republic of Congo with the message of God's love.]

Maritime Ministry in Malta

A maritime ministry on the island nation of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea recently discovered WMP Scripture booklets. Now their leadership is asking for WMP Bible-study booklets for the Bible-study leaders that are established on various ships. "Thank you for your service which makes our work easier and more real."

[Sailors from many nations can be reached with the gospel through your involvement. Every dollar helps. Every gift counts.]
