Doing our Part:

The Great Commission is for ALL

LEAVING HIS HOME IN CAMEROON, a WMP distributor settled in California. "I used to order and distribute your booklets in Mafa, Fulfulde, French and other languages free of charge when I was still a high-school student," he wrote.

"Many people came to Christ through the literature distribution and today some of them are pastors and evangelists. I thank you and thank all the donors."

Men and women receiving the Word, responding in faith, growing in grace, and taking up Christ's last command to give the gospel to the world - what a return on an investment! Giving to God and trusting Him to multiply the gift is the most rewarding use of whatever resources the Lord grants us here on earth.

A pastor and his wife involved in evangelism in Cameroon received 150 boxes of WMP Scripture booklets. "Many people are testifying the impact it brings into their lives. As we receive and carefully distribute booklets from WMP, we realize that we are fulfilling a very important role in reaching the world for Jesus Christ. Satan is fighting us, but as we trust God He provides for us all that we need. We know that the Lord will continue to be with us as we invest time and energy in the cause of sharing God's life-giving truth with the people of our area."

Many coordinators and distributors in French-speaking Africa are awaiting their next shipment of WMP literature currently in production. They have seen lives changed, homes restored, and entire villages transformed as faithful evangelists carry the Word of God into every corner of this once "dark continent." The "Light of the world" is now shining in hearts, from behind closed doors in Morocco to exuberant open praise to God in South Africa. Investing what they have, they are trusting that we will invest what we have in the Commission that was given to us all.

"Let us thank God," writes S.A. in Cameroon, "for the conversion of Sister B. The Holy Spirit filled her with joy. The powerful Word of God had changed everything in her hopeless life, and she is now committed for door-to-door evangelism campaigns."

Though the work is rewarding, it also carries a burden. The time is short, so many have not yet heard. "God is doing great things in Cameroon. Day by day the burden for lost souls is becoming very heavy," writes Sebakoa Aloma, WMP's national coordinator for Cameroon.

Although WMP is printing 5,150,640 booklets in French; 50,000 French New Testaments; and 223,868 copies of A Bible Study on John in French, supplies will be gone a few months after the shipments are received in French-speaking Africa.

"Actually, our work is hindered by the inadequacy of evangelical materials like books for personal studies and evangelistic documents for equipping the evangelists. We consider this a great blessing to have contacted you. We trust God our relations with you will be a great boost to God's work over here. Thanks and God bless you all."

WMP's national coordinator in Central African Republic recently shared with our staff the burden and opportunity for the gospel in his country. Distribution of WMP literature has become a vital part of their ministry. Booklets have been taken into neighboring Chad, a Muslim-dominated country, as well as into Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. They have seen doors opening and are eager to carry the gospel through them. He believes that sustained literature distribution is key to reaching his country and the region with the gospel. To fulfill that goal he needs one 40-ft. container per year, at least 2 million booklets per year. This is a great challenge to WMP and our supporters.

Distributors in French-speaking Africa have pledged all they have to do their part. They are looking to us to do the same.

[Every $20 investment provides for 500 French Scripture booklets; $100 provides for 2,500. French New Testaments cost about 80 cents each to produce.]

Container Update - ANGOLA

MUCH PRAYER WENT UP on behalf of WMP's first container shipment to Angola. Although two pallets of material have languished in a chaotic Angola port for almost two years, the cry for literature could not be ignored. Trusting God for a good result, WMP shipped a 20-ft. container on July 10, 2009 to our national coordinator in Lobito, a different port. His praise report was received in September.

"I'm glad to inform you that the 20-ft. World Missionary Press container cleared customs safely.  Since the port of Luanda is now closed for maintenance, all shipments to Angola come to Lobito. Hence the chaos which characterized the port of Luanda has come down to Lobito.

"Angolan politicians, government officers, and generals in the army own big enterprises and business. They want to be the only ones to import. To discourage the poor citizen to import, they implemented very high taxes that unfortunately affected us.

"Customs and port [officials] do not attend individuals. They gave credentials to some men who act as intermediate between them. They are the ones who check if all documentation is right.

"After paying customs and port, the difficult part was to locate the container. Our container was in the bottom, and it had 14 rows of containers on top of it. I entered the port yard and had to speak to the man working with the container handling machine. He was busy in the other side of the port moving containers. Only after a week he attended to my cry. . . .

"We in Angola are very thankful to . . . WMP . . . who heard the cry of Angola for literature. . . .  We have already started the distribution. . . . Our strategic plan for Angola covers October till the month of January 2010. Remember, it is in this month that the African football cup will take place in Angola. With this sowing of God's Word, millions of souls will be saved. Reports and testimonies will be promptly provided. Thank you very much for your prayerful support and encouragement."

Bassari New Testaments Continue to Bless

In 1992 World Missionary Press produced 2,000 copies of the New Testament in Bassari, a language of Senegal and Guinea. Recently we again heard from the contact for that printing.

"Just wanted to thank you for the Bassari New Testaments which you printed for us many years ago. God has used it in a great way and is still using it. The NT is used in all the services and is used in the schools to teach Bassari! Praise the Lord!"

Since its formation 48 years ago, WMP has produced over 1 and 1/2 billion Scripture booklets. How many of those booklets are still at work around the world? We do know that when we moved from Winona Lake to New Paris in 1970 after nine years of operation, we continued to rent the post-office box in Winona Lake for twenty-five more years because we were still receiving mail from the addresses printed on the backs of 13 million booklets!

You can be assured that your investment in sharing God's Word (every dollar provides for 25 powerful Scripture booklets), which He gave to communicate His love and salvation to all people everywhere, continues to have an impact even years later.

Focus on Giving

YEAR-END INCOME last December enabled a steady pace of production through June, enabling many shipments to go out to waiting distributors.  Due to rising costs, we announced a planned slow-down of production beginning in July and asked for prayer that God would intervene. God provided steady income, including two large gifts during the summer months, enabling production to increase in September. Please praise God with us!

  Year-End Giving

As the end of the year approaches, many take time to appraise their potential tax liability and its impact on the future. Our federal government recognizes the value of charitable giving and allows significant tax benefits for a gift to a qualified charity like World Missionary Press by those who itemize tax deductions.

Your gift now will have an impact on the outreach ministry potential of WMP throughout the world in the coming year.

  • Cash
Your gift postmarked by December 31 could mean cash savings for you at tax-filing time if you itemize deductions.

  • Appreciated Stock
Gifts of appreciated securities or stock can be advantageous in that they avoid capital gains tax. The date of transfer to World Missionary Press, Inc. is considered by IRS as the date of the tax-deductible gift. Stock can be transferred electronically by your broker directly to our Edward Jones account #943-07667-1-8, DTC #0057.
