Angola's Cry for Literature

THIRTEEN-YEAR OLD TERESA was traveling on a minibus trip in her West African native country, Angola, when Raul, a Christian worker on board, introduced her to Jesus Christ. Teresa responded by giving her heart to Jesus right there on the bus. Little did anyone realize that her life on earth would soon end when the van later tragically overturned.

This incident, related by Jose Sitonga, national coordinator for World Missionary Press in Angola, reminds us how vital it is to share the gospel with children. As national director for Child Evangelism Fellowship (CEF) in Angola, Jose directs focused outreach to the children of Angola. As this nation rises from the ashes of decades of war, it can be the children who form the new foundation. Establishing them in Jesus Christ will provide hope for a more peaceful future.

Jose reports that the government of Angola is thankful for their work among the children and is encouraging CEF to continue to teach and train children and adolescents from the Word of God. The door is open to share the gospel in many places, and the cry for literature is ENORMOUS. Jose writes:

   1. Angola held the All Africa Basketball Cup recently and in January 2010 will host the All Africa Football Cup. What an opportunity to share the message of salvation!

   2. Chinese are entering Angola by the thousands, working in the reconstruction of roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. What an opportunity!

   3. The government has given official authorization to teach the Word of God in schools, both government and private. In addition, the Ministry of Education is working with Jose on the possibility of including Bible classes in the educational system. What a possibility for using Scripture booklets!

   4. Rapid church growth and the sowing of the Word of God in urban and rural areas has raised the demand for the availability of Scripture portions.

   5. Church planters, evangelists, and fervent distributors persistently submit literature requests to our office.

Jose finishes his report with this impassioned plea, "My straightforward answer to your question [about need for more literature] is a big YES. There is a dire shortage of literature!"

WMP had prepared a 20-ft. container (with 2,500 boxes in eight languages) for shipment to Angola, but due to unresolved issues with a previous smaller shipment, it was not sent. After receiving this report of the opportunities and great need in Angola, WMP leadership decided to send the 20-ft. container by a different route, trusting God to see it through all potential difficulties and safely to Jose and the many Angolan distributors pleading for booklets.

Angola's first president vowed to eradicate Christianity within 20 years. In the ensuing years of war and persecution, biblical Christianity grew; and in God's mercy the Church is now involved in helping to build a new and vibrant Angola. The people of Angola were never forgotten by a loving Savior, and now after decades of war there is increasing openness for the gospel. As the government works to build roads and infrastructure, God is using believers to build the Church in Angola. Now is the time to provide God's Word!

[You can help! Your prayers for safe delivery of the 20-ft. container are important. Your gift to help cover the cost of this container would be deeply appreciated. $100 will reach 2,500 people in Angola. $20 will touch 500 lives. $1,000 will provide 25,000 powerful Scripture booklets.]

Overseas Printings Meet Urgent Needs for Booklets

THE MIZO PEOPLE of Myanmar (formerly Burma) and western India received Christianity about 100 years ago, with 95% now listed as Christians. But over the years materialism and false teaching have crept in, leading the people to look to physical solutions for their poverty and need rather than to the One who can meet every need.

Martin L., WMP distributor and print coordinator in Myanmar, notes, "This is a good time to touch their hearts with the gospel and share what salvation really means for the people who have lost their way."

Since 1990 many Christian organizations have become active in Myanmar, working to revive the spirit of true Christianity in the Mizo people. But there is a lack of Christian literature to distribute as spiritual food for their souls. Martin and his team have distributed thousands of WMP booklets in Myanmar and even into India, but he reports the need still goes on. Pastors, missionaries, evangelists, and ministers of various denominations have asked him to provide more booklets as well as Bible-study booklets to reach more Mizo people with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

"The need is great and the result far better than what we expected. We've received many praise reports from people who read WMP booklets and who report their life-changing stories. A pastor from a small village reported that a young man who called himself a Christian, but didn't care about the gospel message, is gradually changing his life after reading the book He Is Risen! Praise the Lord! We need more booklets to reach more Mizo young people who are working in the farms, forests, and jungles and don't get a chance to hear the gospel."

WMP works with Martin and his team in Myanmar by funding the printing of WMP booklets in Myanmar. The most recent printing is for 100,000 copies of Help From Above and 100,000 copies of The Amazing Life of Jesus Christ in Mizo for their team of evangelists to take into the Mizo-speaking regions of the country, going from home to home sharing the truth of the gospel. This printing will not last long, and soon Martin will ask to print more booklets.

[A gift of $40 will provide 1,000 Scripture booklets in the Mizo language for Myanmar, to bring hope to those seeking a life-saving relationship with Jesus Christ. $120 will reach 3,000 people there.]

Need for Booklets Has Doubled and Tripled in Nepal

FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS Solon Karthak has used WMP booklets for Every Home for Christ's home-to-home ministry in Nepal. After years of tension, there is now freedom of movement and a great opportunity to share God's Word in Nepal.

EHC in Nepal has become a hope for most of the village and city churches as a sure source to get gospel literature. In addition, the rapid growth of education of young people encourages the use of literature. Solon concludes, "If we provide the Word of God RIGHT NOW in this opportune time, I believe we could see a harvest of thousands of souls for the kingdom of God. Therefore, I am solely in the business of getting out gospel booklets and printing them here. If WMP will help us print thousands of additional Scripture booklets such as Help From Above and your powerful booklet The Way to God, it would be a great service to us. Distributors could receive booklets on time and in larger quantities from our office."

In response to this appeal WMP authorized the printing of additional Scripture booklets in Nepal and the word has spread abroad. Solon reports, "I know we've distributed millions of WMP booklets in homes, person to person, in jails and in hospitals. We handed them out in schools and among college students, to villagers and urban people groups. We have sown the Seed of the gospel, which is the prime factor in building a new Nepal. The result is in the hand of the Holy Spirit."

Booklets in the Dzonkha language of Bhutan and the Lepcha language for regions of Nepal and Bhutan have also been printed. The most recent printing in Nepal is The Way to God in Tibetan.

Solon summarizes the partnership of WMP and NEHC: "The need for WMP gospel booklets in recent time has doubled and tripled in the midst of the growth of literacy and the explosion of new believers. It is a known fact that Nepali believers are very aggressive in evangelism, and they do not mind placing or handing out booklets wherever they go. We're distributing booklets through our field missionaries as well as with the help of local churches. In many districts in Nepal, we like to leave WMP booklets in every home in our ongoing second coverage of the country. There is no doubt an enormous need of WMP Scripture booklets in Nepal and surrounding countries and people groups."

[To help provide Scripture booklets for the work in Nepal, please indicate this on the response form enclosed.]
