The Words That Heal Aching Hearts

EBENEZER SAMUEL knows first-hand the immeasurable effect of gospel literature in India. He distributed thousands of WMP Scripture booklets as he traveled from village to village sharing the gospel. One incident vividly illustrates how God can use one Scripture booklet.

A women met a pastor in the marketplace. When the man handed her a booklet, she handed it back, saying that she could not read. The pastor opened the booklet and read every page to her. As she heard the words of life, her heart was stirred. There in the marketplace she accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She began to attend the pastor's church and soon made the decision never to go anywhere without booklets, even though she was illiterate and worked as a housemaid. The pastor reported that in six months this faithful woman brought seven families to Christ, all of them now in his church.

According to Pastor Samuel of Serve India Ministries, India is open and still coming to Christ. Persecution in certain areas has brought about an increase in enrollment in their Bible schools, with young people sensing the urgency and necessity of taking the gospel throughout India. WMP will be sending Serve India Ministries a shipment of 271,960 booklets in nine languages to reach the lost and equip the saints. Pastor Samuel thanks WMP for its "radical commitment to world missions."

India Bible Literature, serving as WMP's national coordinator for India, will be receiving two 40-ft. containers with urgently needed material for hundreds of evangelists. IBL director E. Velayutham states that free WMP booklets are a particular blessing, because many Indian evangelists barely manage to meet the needs of their families, with nothing left to purchase gospel literature. WMP booklets, focusing on the Word of God, are highly valued as the need in India increases.

Since 1989 WMP has partnered with Gospel for Asia to reach the unreached of India, providing more than 75 million Scripture booklets. Among the thousands of national evangelists sent out by GFA are some who have come to the Savior through WMP booklets. One such young man grew up in a Hindu home. As he grew older, an emptiness in his life drove him to try drugs and other "satisfactions." Then someone gave him a Scripture booklet. The words touched his aching heart and he soon came to the Savior.

A young boy was feeling unwell and unable even to play. A GFA missionary passed his home and gave him a Scripture booklet. He told the boy to read it through every day and pray to Jesus. He did, and as he prayed and read God's Word, he felt himself growing stronger and able to play as the other children. His parents noticed this change and were curious as to the cause. They too began to read the booklet and then began attending a GFA church in the area. Soon the entire family came to Christ.

A man in great physical need was given aid by a group of believers. This man had formerly persecuted the local believers, yet they reached out with the compassion of Jesus. As he received their kindness, he exclaimed, "I never knew Jesus loved me so much."

GFA continues to print WMP booklets in India for distribution among the most needy and outcast. One million copies of The Way to God in various Indian languages were printed in May and one million copies of Who Is Our Good Shepherd? (a special edition of The Amazing Life of Jesus Christ for "untouchable" Dalits) were printed in June. Each booklet has a message of love that will be given in love to someone who does not yet know how much Jesus loves him or her.

[The need continues. You can impact hundreds or thousands of poor people in India through your investment in God's Word. Every $25 reaches 625 Indian people. A $100 gift touches 2,500 lives. An investment of $1,000 will provide 25,000 Scripture booklets in Indian languages.]

  From Oklahoma to Nicaragua

A church missions team from Claremore, OK, traveled to La Mora, Nicaragua, to help meet practical needs and to share the love of God.  Along with 500 New Testaments and 500 Bibles, the team gave out 2,000 The Way to God and 1,000 How to Know God WMP Spanish booklets. The team set up a free medical/dental clinic and pharmacy (3,390 patients were treated), gave beans and rice to the poor, and shared the gospel in tent services, door-to-door, and to everyone who visited the clinic. Many read the booklets while standing in line.

GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS!

CONTAINER SHIPMENTS to new or sensitive areas have arrived safely. Much prayer went up for each of them, and we praise God for His faithfulness in seeing the shipments safely to their destinations. We are trusting that He will use each booklet or New Testament to accomplish His purpose in the heart of a reader.

IRAQ: A 40-ft. container with Arabic, Kurdish, and Persian-Farsi literature left WMP on April 10, 2009. Although this was the fourth WMP container to be sent to Iraq, it was the first destined for the northern provinces. Each step of the journey brought new challenges. At last, on June 6, word was received that the container had arrived safely. The Kurdish and Arabic New Testaments on this shipment will help establish believers in the truth, enabling them to stand true in the face of whatever may come.

SUDAN: After years of persecution and war, believers in southern Sudan are experiencing a calm and freedom to share the gospel openly. EHC director Fermo Ogilla was eager to receive WMP literature and begin outreach from home to home as well as to reach students in various schools and universities. The opportunity was there, the workers were there, so WMP agreed to send its first shipment to southern Sudan. As the shipment made its way by truck through Kenya to Sudan, highway robbers tried to hijack the truck. God preserved the truck and nothing was stolen. Then a change in government regulations required different documents from those in hand. Finally word came that the truck was in the EHC compound and being unloaded. Director Ogilla sent this report:

"Regarding the distribution, we actually started last week. Yesterday I went out with an  Evangelism Team from Juba Christian Center, a major local church. This team goes out after spending a night in prayer every Friday, going from door to door Saturday and Sunday.

"I went with them to see how they will do the distribution. We started with a small quantity of booklets. This gave me first-hand experience of how thirsty people are. The literature just disappeared in less than five minutes, leaving others begging to be given also."

SIBERIA: Brother George sat at a conference table with several WMP staff members and shared his burden for getting gospel literature into Siberia. During a recent visit to that part of Russia, he met believers eager and willing to use whatever literature they could receive to share the gospel. He asked WMP, "Can we do this?" It was agreed that with the Lord's provision and direction WMP would send its first container shipment for Siberia. On March 9, 2009, a 20-ft. container filled with Scripture booklets, Bible studies, and salvation coloring books in Russian left WMP for the EHC contact in Siberia. On May 19, the good news arrived from Alex B., WMP's national coordinator in Russia:

"Believe me that prayer opens the way for the Word of God to run without hindrance.  It creates the atmosphere that is favorable for the Word to accomplish its purpose!

"Today, some hours ago, customs clearing of the shipment in the city of Bratsk, Siberia, was finished and unloaded in church territory. Praise the Lord!  All people in the church rang the bell and had a smile of triumph, exulting in His victory! From the bottom of the heart - thanks for your prayerful support. Once again, please accept our gratitude for all of you! WMP team, you do great [work] for the Lord! In eternity we find out fruits of our work."
