Vision Letter November 2008
THE
PEOPLE OF MOZAMBIQUE have endured many hardships, struggling through war,
famine, and flood. Like the people of Zimbabwe, they have pleaded for the
bread of life and the living water above their obvious physical needs. God
has answered their prayers in part through WMP Scripture booklets. What has
followed is an outpouring of praise to God and rejoicing in many
souls coming to know the Savior.
Missionary Tanneken Fros, working with Mountain of Praise Church in Mozambique,
recently received a 40-ft. container full of God Loves You and He
Is Risen! salvation coloring books and Scripture booklets in Portuguese,
plus other languages, for outreach work in Mozambique and into Malawi. Also
included in this container was a beginning supply for the home-to-home
ministry of Every Home for Christ in Mozambique directed by Pastor Anakleto.
Their joy in receiving these Scripture portions is expressed in Tanneken's
report:
"Praise the Lord for the gift of a 40-ft. container full of Scripture
booklets, Bible studies, and Sunday-school
materials! For all churches in Mozambique, we at Mountain of Praise Church
say a big THANK YOU to World Missionary Press and all their volunteer
helpers for sending this great blessing to help us spread the Word of God
[in] all provinces of Mozambique for the furtherance of the gospel of
salvation and for discipling [new believers].
"For a long time we have hoped and prayed that Mozambique could be 'flooded'
with the Word of God. Prayers have been answered. I could write a whole
article on what it took to bring this container into Dondo. At the Beira
harbor, more than 200 containers were waiting to be unloaded. Finally it was
our turn, [and the container was trucked to Dondo, arriving 15 hours late
due to a breakdown].
"Before the container could be taken off the truck, it had to be
emptied. Since we had no forklift, 4,213 boxes of Scripture booklets had
to be taken out by hand. All our orphans, church folks, and neighbors
helped to empty
the
container.
"Since it was much too expensive to rent a crane to take the container
off the rickety truck, we borrowed a chain and metal tubes, borrowed a great
big tractor with shovel from the Dondo municipality, and with these tools
pulled the container off the truck. Then all the boxes had to be put back
inside to protect them. Two days before the conference, many of our pastors
arrived, so they helped to repack. Now we are ready to distribute. It was
worth all the effort."
William Kulemera, WMP's national coordinator in Malawi, shares the
same enthusiasm and joy in receiving and sharing WMP literature. Since
becoming national coordinator, he has worked vigorously to get boxes of
booklets to distributors throughout Malawi as well as to pastors in
Zimbabwe. He, too, is seeing the power of God's Spirit moving in hearts as
the message of hope and salvation covers the land.
"The grandmother of one of our distributors was old and sick and
recently passed away. Before she died, she called for me to come. Repenting,
she confessed all her sins and gave her life to Jesus Christ. She said it's
done, for now she can meet her Savior.
"Since she
belonged to the village chieftain's tribe, the funeral gathering was crowded
with all types of people in the capital city. Her relatives asked me and my
team to conduct a funeral service for her burial. I tell you, it became like
a big crusade where all people were listening and three-fourths of the
gathering gave their lives to Christ Jesus. We distributed eight boxes
[4,160 copies] of the The Way to God booklets. Some people are still
calling me, asking for more, wanting us to preach to them in their own
churches because the truth has set them free.
"I write to thank you for these booklets, for they are a
prodding instrument into the lives of people in Christ Jesus, winning
lost souls for God's kingdom and His glory. We are about to run out of
booklets, so please, we need another
container."
Again and again,
we hear the same kind of reports, followed by the same pleas. "The
booklets have arrived and are wonderfully effective. We have used all our
supply. Please send more as soon as possible."
As more and more
people discover the booklets, requests increase. In September of this year
WMP shipped five more containers, setting a record of 32 container
shipments sent in one fiscal year. Our production team works diligently
to get orders to the field as quickly as possible, but the backlog is
still as much as a year or even longer for container shipments. During
much of that time national coordinators are without booklets to give
out, leaving pastors and churches without vital tools for reaching their
communities for Christ. Many doors are open and a great harvest is being
drawn into the kingdom, but the time is short. Soon some doors will close,
and soon the night will come when no man can work. We must redeem the time!
Each person in the world will spend eternity in heaven - or in hell.
In the troubled nation of Zimbabwe, WMP national coordinator Cleopas
Chitapa is awaiting delivery of a 20-ft. container. There is a renewed
openness to the gospel as people face the reality of eternity. Through the
ministry of Every Home for Christ, Cleopas and his team diligently work to
take the precious message of hope to those in great need of hope.
Another corner of the world is also experiencing trouble as well as triumph.
Evangelist Santosh Thomas, working through Kashmir Evangelical Fellowship,
is faithfully sharing the gospel in the troubled region of Kashmir in
northern India. One story clearly shows the power of a witness of
praise to draw souls to the Father:
"When my parents started the ministry in 1963, they celebrated Easter
by parading through the town waving white flags, singing praise songs, and
shouting,'Jesus is risen! He is alive!' The store keepers were shocked and
furious. The following year they closed their shops and heckled the crowd as
the believers paraded by. As time passed, we have become well known. This
past year, the day began with a church service that was attended by 850
people.
We
then went to the streets, carrying banners and thousands of Scripture
booklets provided by World Missionary Press. People from Hindu and
Muslim backgrounds and from the army base joined us on the seven-mile trek
through town. More than 1,500 people participated! The shop keepers stood
outside their businesses to watch, listen, and receive the free booklets.
The procession then returned to the church, where an
Easter
feast was served and the gospel was again preached. Souls responded to the
message, so we walked to the river and baptized 40 new believers. What a
day! What a Savior!"
Ministries all over the world are waiting for their opportunity to receive
Scripture booklets. We can buy paper and ink and pay production and shipping
expenses only as monthly income allows. Following a record income in
December, each month from January to June this year WMP's monthly income was
below budget, forcing us to cancel a load of paper and to plan to cut back
production in July.
As we earnestly sought the Lord to provide the income needed to keep the
presses running, a miracle took place. God sent an amazingly
large anonymous donation that more than offset the previous decrease in
monthly giving. By the end of July, income had exceeded budget for the
month, even without considering that single large gift, and
production levels were restored. We praise God for your part in the July
miracle.
WMP Scripture booklets are not considered "extras" to our
distributors around the world. They are considered "necessities."
WMP is working to meet the need for the bread of life. We continue to look
to the Lord to bring us faithful partners like you who share this vision and
sense the urgency of the hour. Shipments to India, Philippines, Nigeria,
Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Lesotho, Mali, Russia, Bulgaria, Nicaragua,
Guatemala, Bolivia,
Venezuela, Chile, Haiti, Pakistan, Sudan, Ecuador, and Jamaica stand in line
waiting to be printed and shipped. These orders represent a huge number
of souls who will receive God's Word in their own languages and will learn
of His great love for them and His invitation of salvation and eternal life.
[You
can help. A gift of $20 provides 500 Scripture booklets for eager
distributors. An investment of $100 reaches 2,500 people with the gospel.
You can help reach thousands of people like yourself who are destined for
heaven or hell. No donation is too small to be appreciated nor too large to
be put to good use.]
