CENTURIES AGO, wise men followed a star.

World Missionary Press, Inc.
December 2008 Vision letter

CENTURIES AGO, wise men followed a star. That star penetrated the darkness and gave clear direction to the fulfillment of God's promise to send a King. Searching the ancient writings, they had learned of One who would come. A willingness to seek Him out directed their way to the feet of the child Jesus, the Son of God.

Jesus, the Light of the World, is a light that penetrates any darkness. No pain or grief is too dark for that light to penetrate. No place on earth is too remote for His light to pierce. Those who seek the Light will find Him, and following Him will have hope and salvation, from the darkest night to eternal day.

You can help share news of that awesome Light through these practical gift ideas:

Gift Idea #1:  A Roll of Paper

Various forms of ancient writing eventually gave way to paper and ink, with words etched on aluminum printing plates. At World Missionary Press paper and ink merge, bearing words of life.

WMP's vision is to give portions of the written Word of God to peoples of the world in their own languages. Pocket-sized booklets, each containing about 300 powerful Scripture verses, are transported from our plant to destinations around the world - from truck to train to ship to truck to warehouse to willing worker to curious passer-by or hungry heart. Eyes scan the pages, finding words that bring hope and amazement. God has sent His Word to reveal Himself to eager readers.

Providing these words of hope and life from God requires rolls of paper. Producing 6 million Scripture booklets per month requires the equivalent of 70 wide rolls of paper. An average wide roll of paper weighs 1,500 pounds and provides the inside pages of 85,000 Scripture booklets - one of the best investments available. Funding one roll at $1,046 brings incalculable eternal fruit. Or your gift of $523 will provide paper for 42,500 Scripture booklets. The urgent need is to produce 9 million per month, which would require more than three truckloads of paper a month, costing $31,380 each.

Gift Idea #2:  Overseas Printings

Opportunities arise to print Scripture booklets in countries where WMP cannot safely send large quantities. During the past fiscal year WMP financed printings of He Is Risen!, The Way to God, and Help From Above in Burmese in Myanmar. The salvation coloring books were being printed when Cyclone Nargis struck Myanmar in May. God protected them, and they were on hand to be part of relief packets distributed to victims.

In India, where printing is economical, Gospel for Asia (GFA) has reliably printed three million booklets in India to supply The Amazing Life of Jesus Christ (renamed Who Is Our Shepherd?) in 14 languages of India for trained GFA native missionaries working among the Dalit ("untouchable" Hindu caste) people, who are eager to hear about Jesus. Many more could be printed if funds were available. (In the first five months of 2008, GFA saw responses equal to the entire previous year!) GFA is also willing to print large quantities for WMP's major distributors in India. The need is to print about three million Scripture booklets during December and January for about $15,000 per million.

Kendall Cobb of ACTSCo in Thailand is eager to print more booklets as soon as WMP is able to provide funding. They have printed booklets in Thai, Burmese, Karen, Akha, and other tribal languages for distribution in SE Asia.

WMP's national coordinator in Pakistan was able to print Urdu Satan versus CHRIST and is working on translating other titles. When WMP sent him a small initial shipment, his response was joyous. "Hallelujah! The books have reached our city. Praise the Lord! I cannot tell you how excited and happy I am for this great blessing."

Printings of Javanese and Indonesian booklets continue to be in demand in Indonesia, a predominantly Muslim nation which does not permit importing  material in national languages. Printing there is vital to keep valued Scriptural tools available. One million Scripture booklets were printed for Every Home for Christ (EHC) in Indonesia, besides printings for others. A printing of 250,000 copies of The Way to God is in progress, and a reprinting of 250,000 Help From Above has been requested as funds become available (at a cost of $9,000).

[A gift of $50 to $500 or more specified for overseas printings will reach precious people with God's powerful Word.]

Gift Idea #3:  Exciting New Projects

For many years, Christians of southern Sudan suffered persecution and great physical hardship. Now God has graciously brought them peace, and they are eager to openly share the gospel throughout southern Sudan. Hennie Hanekom of EHC Anglo Africa issued this challenge: “We have an open window of opportunity to reach all of southern Sudan, especially now with the present peace agreement. We need to work as proactively as possible and do all we can!" EHC has established a national director and placed a request for a 20-ft. container of WMP literature to reach Sudan as soon as possible. Harold Mack, WMP's Director of Global Distribution, immediately added this shipment to the next production schedule, giving Sudan high priority as a very strategic nation.

EHC's national director for Sudan says that the Lord has opened wide the doors of ministry among university students as well as primary and secondary schools. "Churches in Juba are yearning as to when EHC is going to start its activities. We are under pressure from churches on a daily basis. Pastors and youth are calling us to know if we have started anything." They will be able to start as soon as the literature arrives.

Another exciting opportunity is a 40-ft. container of Scripture for northern Iraq and will include Kurdish New Testaments as well as Arabic New Testaments, Scripture booklets, salvation coloring books, and booklets in Persian-Farsi. Believers in Iraq continue to boldly share the gospel and look to WMP for tools to share the Word of God.

[A contribution of $200 to $5,000 or more will help significantly in touching lives in Sudan or Iraq. The 20-ft. container to Sudan will cost about $50,000 and the 40-ft. container to Iraq will cost about $86,000.]

Gift Idea #4:  Salvation Coloring Books

Children (and even adults) all over the world have discovered the joy of having a salvation coloring book from WMP. In the past year alone, He Is Risen! was published in ten languages, including Mongolian (printed in Mongolia), Burmese (printed in Myanmar), Indonesian (printed in Indonesia), and in Simplified Chinese (printed in China). Single pages are often used as Sunday-school lessons and shared with an entire family. The story of Jesus comes alive through Scripture verses and full-page drawings.

From Ukraine: "The coloring books were very effective; and even when the children were afraid to take a [Scripture] booklet, they couldn't resist the coloring books. Only the Lord knows how many lives were changed through your help."

Children living in poverty, with little or nothing to call their own, take a coloring book wide-eyed with wonder. This is for them. The words and the pictures are for them. Many will spend hours going over each page again and again.

Coloring books in Luganda will soon be sent to EHC in Uganda, and a printing of He is Risen! in a new language, Mizo, is needed in Myanmar at a cost of $4,000.

[Each investment in salvation coloring books can help lead children - and their parents - to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Coloring books cost between 18 and 31 cents each, depending on the quantity and language printed.]

Gift Idea #5:  New Testaments

Reports from around the world tell of a great harvest of souls coming into the kingdom. Churches and ministries are experiencing tremendous response to the gospel with new churches being established daily. (In 30 English-speaking African nations EHC is seeing 203 churches planted each month!)

New believers need the Word of God in their hands and hearts to grow strong in their faith and to withstand the attacks and deceptions of the Enemy. Most of WMP's New Testaments include A Basic Study of New Testament Scriptures. With little access to Bible study material, one small New Testament may be their only Bible course.

Printings of New Testaments in Spanish, French, Arabic, Persian, and Kreyol (Haiti) continue as God provides funds. [A gift of $50 to $1,000 for New Testaments will provide instruction in righteous living for many new believers. Arabic New Testaments cost us about 67 cents each to produce.]

Practical, significant gift ideas indeed! Your continuing involvement with the worldwide ministry of World Missionary Press is a great blessing to us . . . and to millions around the world who are being impacted by the powerful Word of God.  Your gift at this time will bring joy and hope to hurting hearts. Thank you for your support and encouragement.

Your friends in Christ,

  Jay & Vicky Benson

P.S. The fields are ripe for harvest. Responsiveness is on the rise. The need is great. The time is NOW. Your Christmas gift of any amount will go far, as every dollar, on average, still provides for the printing and shipping of 25 powerful 48-page Scripture booklets.
