In Colombia: Bringing Peace and Hope
In the lonely darkness of a Colombian prison, someone offers a small booklet filled with words of hope and redemption. Along crowded streets and in busy market places, eager hands offer the message of God’s love. Up and down the winding rivers that are the only transportation to jungle villages, a boat comes carrying the good news of salvation.

Colombia has been one of the most violent countries in the world, with guerillas, right-wing paramilitary groups, and drug lords struggling for control and power. Believers, standing firmly for truth and showing love to all, have often been caught in the crossfire of Colombia’s conflict. Recent reports show that Colombia has almost three million internally-displaced refugees fleeing from one danger to another, often with no safe haven in sight.

WMP is privileged to support many faithful distributors who are sharing the precious Word of God throughout this needy nation. Antonio P. and his co-workers have used the Basic Study of New Testament Scriptures in Spanish to reach almost 2,000 prisoners. Their goal: to reach every prison and prisoner in Colombia. Brother P. reports that already many ex-guerillas and ex-paramilitary participants have come to Christ. They also use this study book to train and encourage young single mothers who are being nurtured by the local churches. A new shipment of WMP literature has been sent to these faithful workers.

Pastor Carlos M. was thrilled to receive a shipment of WMP material. He distributed the boxes among 60 local pastors in the city of Barranquilla. Another 50 pastors from the surrounding countryside came for booklets as well. He asked for additional boxes so that these 50 pastors could also have literature for their people. A distributor from Putamayo writes, “Beloved brothers, it may be hard for you to imagine, but there are congregations that have never been given any tracts for distribution to people.”

While visiting WMP distributors in Colombia, Jay Benson and Harold Mack met with a Christian worker from Buenaventura who told them, “There are 42 municipalities in which we are working through evangelism, especially handing over the material you sent us. We need more literature because we are trying to reach about two million people in an unreached area where it is very difficult to communicate. These people need literature because they have been used to witchcraft and sorcery. We want to rescue these people from all these activities. A good way to reach them is through literature such as The Way to God and Help From Above. People like these very much.”

Pastor Omar B. has been using WMP Scripture booklets in door-to-door evangelism and reports that people respond very positively to the booklets. He also helps supply literature for a group of 16 churches working in prisons and hospitals as well as home-by-home outreach. He will soon be receiving a 20-ft. container shipment (about 2,800 boxes) to help with this work.

As the nation of Colombia struggles to overcome effects of the violence and devastation of the past years, God is calling out a people for Himself. He is healing souls and building His Church.

[Each donation of $20 provides 500 Spanish Scripture booklets for Colombia; a $100 contribution reaches 2,500 precious people there.]

South Africa:  Building a Sure Foundation

Before World Missionary Press began as a vision in the hearts of Watson and Rose Goodman, they were sharing Bible stories, Scripture verses, and gospel choruses with the children of South Africa. Today Every Home For Christ South Africa continues to reach children through The Way to God booklet, written by Rose Goodman. The following report shows just how the Lord is touching lives of teachers and children through the Scriptures:

“We are six volunteers who present an hour of Bible study and prayer [once a week] at Steynsrus High School as an extra-curricular activity. Of the 350 learners in the school, 100 attend regularly. A spiritual message is given and after singing, we divide into small groups to present lessons that we have worked out in conjunction with your booklet, The Way to God. Our studies start with Creation and end with spiritual growth.

“Since we received the booklets from you in June 2004, it took us until the end of the academic year to work through the booklets to make sure the children understood what the message is all about. After working through the booklet, each child who faithfully attended the classes was given a booklet which would enable them in turn to explain the good news to others.

“Those of us who present the lessons experience probably more of a blessing than the children, because we receive clarity about what the Word says and how to convey and explain it to others. We started in February 2005 again with new children, but we also walk the extra mile with those whom we know. We believe that a foundation has been laid on which we can carry on building.

“Thank you for your great support that you give through providing your booklets to lead, to help, and to inspire us.” —E.H., EHC Forum, May 2005

Children are the future of any society, and in South Africa, where AIDS is a devastating reality and child rape is rampant, it is especially urgent to bring children to Jesus. “But Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven’ ” (Matthew 19:14).

Every Home For Christ South Africa reaches whole families as it distributes WMP’s 2-in-1 Scripture booklet containing both The Way to God for children and Help From Above for adults, compiled by Watson Goodman. They are receiving an amazing number of responses from this home-to-home outreach. You, too, can be involved by helping to reach a family by providing for these 2-in-1 booklets with response-card insert for less than 10 cents per family.

Recent Special Blessing

A lot in Florida was donated to World Missionary Press about 20 years ago. It had been purchased for about $7,000 at a time when tens of thousands of lots were being sold. Because the huge area developed much slower than expected, this particular lot could not be sold anywhere near its value. We waited and waited, while development moved closer and closer to that property. Streets were put in. We were able to visit the lot on Hibiscus Drive, a new housing development in Poinciana, just 25 miles south of Orlando.

Last year at this time, buyers were approaching us to buy the lot for $5,000. We waited to research what lots were going for in the area. Then a realtor approached us on behalf of a building developer for a much higher price. But because our lot was not yet hooked up to utilities (water, electricity, sewer), they put off buying the lot for a net of $17,000.

Eventually another realtor with experience in the area and a heart for our work offered to list the property for four months free of charge, suggesting a much higher price. After one closing fell through, another offer came in above the asking price! At just the right time, God sold the lot, and WMP received a net check for $24,502.01. Praise God for His provision and guidance!
