November Vision letter 2005

AS THE WORLD WATCHED IN STUNNED HORROR, a hurricane of tremendous power roared ashore along the U.S. Gulf Coast, leaving devastated lives and property in its wake. Immediately there were those who asked the Lord, “What can we do to help?” Calls began to come to World Missionary Press with requests for Scripture booklets that would offer hope in a seemingly hopeless situation.

A pastor in Houma, Louisiana, not far from the hurricane’s fury, called long-time WMP supporter Milton Martin, asking for direction in helping those who had fled to his city. Milton called WMP and requested 500 copies of The Way to God and 500 copies of the salvation coloring book He Is Risen!  One of the primary concerns of those in Houma was providing something to help parents care for their children. The coloring books provided activity and a sense of normalcy in the middle of traumatic upheaval. In addition, the message of resurrection, life from death, spoke peace and comfort to all.
In the days that followed the storm, distributors from various churches contacted WMP for literature. A ministry in Georgia requested 2,500 booklets and 1,200 Bible study books, including Meditations in the Psalms, to share with those in shelters in their area. In that small collection of Psalms is Psalm 56, described as a prayer to God for protection, and quoting the psalmist, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”
Scripture booklets were taken to Mississippi as well, as Christians rallied to meet physical and spiritual needs. A ministry in Maryland carefully considered what they could use to distribute among the thousands being sheltered so far from home. They received 11,000 Scripture booklets in English, French, and Spanish as well as coloring books and Bible study books in each language.
Feed the Hungry, a ministry associated with LeSea Broadcasting, called for as many boxes of booklets in Vietnamese and English as WMP could supply to go on a container headed for Biloxi, Mississippi. The church building in Biloxi which had been used by Feed the Hungry as a distribution center was heavily damaged by the storm. A church across the street agreed to serve as a new distribution center. Through this new church, contact was made with the Vietnamese community in the area. There Feed the Hungry workers found people hungry for the Word of God. Booklets and Bibles were distributed as quickly as they arrived. WMP was able to send more than 15,000 copies of Help From Above in Vietnamese to assist in this work.
A lady from Florida called to request booklets (The Way to God) for outreach to hurricane victims.  She said that her house had been destroyed by a hurricane, but she wanted to reach out to those displaced by Hurricane Katrina, especially the children.
Way of the Cross Ministries in Texas received more than 15,000 booklets for use with their hurricane relief projects. Other opportunities are still being received as individuals and groups plan trips to the Gulf region. We praise God for every booklet WMP has been able to supply, each one a gift of hope.

Opportunities to Provide God’s Word
   1. For more than 29 years WMP has been working with Frans K. in Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim nation,  to produce Scripture booklets there. The government does not allow importing of literature in national languages for economic reasons.
Frans has informed us of the need for 50,000 bi-lingual Indonesian/English How to Know God Scripture booklets for distribution in Indonesia, where opposition to the gospel is growing.

[A $50 contribution will provide 862 bi-lingual How to Know God booklets.]

    2. About 14,000 trained national workers in India serving with Gospel For Asia use literature every day in their ministries. World Missionary Press has provided funding for the printing of millions of Scripture booklets in many Indian languages over the years. Now there is need for an additional 1,000,000 booklets to be printed there at a cost of $15,116.
[Each gift of $25 provides zealous workers with 1,650 Indian-language Scripture booklets.]
